riceboy Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 Just purchased Call of the Valley. I really enjoyed it and it reminds me of "Remember Shakti"
aerius Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 Well, I didn't exactly buy it, but I was pressured into taking a couple Patricia Barber CDs at an audio meet a few weeks ago. I feel like a dirty audiophile snob now.

aerius Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 why? Patricia Barber is great! Well, yes, but it feels kinda weird that I now own audiophile approvedtm albums which writers in Stereophile, TAS, and all the other mags gush about all the time.
Dusty Chalk Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 Barnes & Noble buy 2, get 1 free classical CD sale. How long is that sale going on? Do I need a coupon? 33% is pretty good, I'll have to go look and see if I can find 3 disks I want.
boomana Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 I picked up on a few classical selections in the B&N sale last week. Don't know how long it's lasting. Makes it easy to give nice presents too.
Thelonious Monk Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 Frederic Rzewski - The People United Will Never Be Defeated! Holy crap. For 2 reasons: (1) Amazing set of piano variations, everyone needs this. (2) This particular pressing is apparently worth $100, and I bought it for $5. Holy crap. One of the most beautiful albums I've yet heard. Many Coltrane fans don't dig it, but I find the pairing brilliant. Hartman's unique, soothing crooner vocals were recorded excellently... the decay, urgh. Sure, Coltrane is quite restrained, but it's not like he's going to go all "Giant Steps" on our asses... that'd ruin the synergy. Lots of pairings like this just don't "gel" -- like Ellington & Trane -- but John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman is an exception. (edit: sorry of the rather vague/incoherent description. tired from finals etc.) Don't tell anyone I bought it, though. This is the kind of thing other kids would literally beat me up for listening to.
hungrych Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 Ballad Of a Thin Man on disc 2 is the best thing ever.
deepak Posted May 24, 2008 Author Report Posted May 24, 2008 Porcupine Tree - Moonloop Transmission IV on CD. Seller on ebay had a bunch of copies, got it for pretty cheap
deepak Posted May 24, 2008 Author Report Posted May 24, 2008 Definitely will. It's a bad ass jam, and I finally get to upgrade my MP3 version Can't wait to hear it on the Staxies
Dusty Chalk Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 Porcupine Tree - Moonloop Transmission IV on CD. Seller on ebay had a bunch of copies, got it for pretty cheap Yeah, a friend of mine recently played that for me. I was (totally blissed out)^2. Second only to Just for a Day in terms of bliss factor. (Not really comparable, except for my reaction to both of them.)
deepak Posted May 25, 2008 Author Report Posted May 25, 2008 checking my sexuality at the door for buying this one Also need to pick up the Cowboy Junkies Mofi, and all the Dylan Bootleg Series except for 7. And I lost my copy of Modern Times
postjack Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 Baroness - Red Album. This one was recommended by an old friend of my girlfriend who we ran into at the Ministry concert. He instantly knew I was good for Melody (my girlfriend) because I had on a King Crimson shirt. So I'm thinking this one will be good. Ministry - Psalms 69 Ministry - Cover Up
postjack Posted May 26, 2008 Report Posted May 26, 2008 checking my sexuality at the door for buying this one I completely don't understand why buying one of my favorite albums makes you want to have sex with men. more for me: Southern Lord Resonance Package: * Om-"Live At Jerusalem" LP * Lair of the Minotaur-"War Metal Battle Master" LP * Pentemple-"0)) Presents...." CD * Ascend-"Ample Fire Within" CD * Invocation of Sacred Resonance/Southern Lord Label shirt 2008 -T shirt * Invocation of Sacred Resonance /Southern Lord label compilation 2008 Porcupine Tree "We Lost The Skyline" LP, black and marbled versions. deepak Posted May 27, 2008 Author Report Posted May 27, 2008 Cowboy Junkies MFSL sacd. And trying to buy the MFSL for Jethro Tull's A Passion Play. Finally got to hear the MFSL of Thick as a Brick, holy shit it's good!
en480c4 Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 Kira Lynn Cain - The Ideal Hunter Official Site & MySpace Site for samples... RIYL? Hmmmm, not sure. Have to give it some listens to know for sure.
Dusty Chalk Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 Based on 20 seconds worth of sound samples, I'm guessing: Julee Cruise, Devics, maybe Lisa Germano, Lori Carson, Nicole Blackman? ...I even hear some Nancy Sinatra (circa her collaborations with Lee Hazelwood). (Thanks for the pointer, I'm definitely getting it.)
en480c4 Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 I was in the same boat... I heard a few samples, loved what I heard and tracked it down. But I haven't hear enough to really get a feel for it. It arrived here at work about 30 minutes ago. A side note... The best place I found to get it was through Amazon Marketplace sellers. Despite an announced May 20th release date, local shops couldn't find it in their systems, likely due to a lack of distribution.
