n_maher Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 812? srlsy? Who numbers these things? That said, the one picture certainly looks a bit K340ish, no?
shellylh Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 17*5*4 = 340 and 29*7*4 = 812 Seems obvious to me. 3
CarlSeibert Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 They look 701ish to me, which is to say comfy. And moar black. Sensitivity of 110. OK fine. I wonder if it will take less than a bulldozer to drive them. AKG doesn't have the greatest track record for drive-ablity. (Thinking not so much of the K1K, which is supposed to be a pig to drive as the 701, which is nominally drive-able by almost any amp, but sounds like ass on the vast majority of them.)
skullguise Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 And, they have out-Tesla'd the Beyer T1.... Could be interesting; the 701 sounds pretty darn good out of Doug's DSHA-1.....
jpelg Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 @shellyh - LOL! @AKG - more insane flagship headphone pricing.
Dusty Chalk Posted November 5, 2013 Author Report Posted November 5, 2013 Nate, my guess is they just increase them incrementally, but then they don't release all the ones in between.
grawk Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 there's an akg 512, akg 612, and akg 712, so an akg 812 makes sense to me
tkam Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 Official AKG 812 page - Looks interesting, wonder how they sound.
swt61 Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 812? srlsy? Who numbers these things? That said, the one picture certainly looks a bit K340ish, no? 17*5*4 = 340 and 29*7*4 = 812 Seems obvious to me. And see I thought it was implying that it was a jump on the bandwagon moniker, Like "OK, I ate one too".
guzziguy Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) That said, the one picture certainly looks a bit K340ish, no? That was my thought when I first saw the picture. @AKG - more insane flagship headphone pricing. They figure that it sounds 2/3 as good as an HD-800 so should cost 2/3 as much. Cankin Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 They are the same price, aren't they? http://www.headphone.com/headphones/akg-k812.php http://www.headphone.com/headphones/sennheiser-hd-800.php
guzziguy Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) They are the same price, aren't they? http://www.headphone.com/headphones/akg-k812.php http://www.headphone.com/headphones/sennheiser-hd-800.php I thought I saw $1K somewhere. Maybe it was 1K Euros. Also, I was joking about the sound quality, having never heard them. I'll be interested in hearing what you think, Tyll. Edited November 5, 2013 by guzziguy
nopants Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 1K euros is what I've seen thrown around. I just sold my k1000's so I'm mildy interested in these.
tin ear Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 pleased to see a thread on these here and looking forward to Tyll's assessment.
philodox Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 (edited) Just what I need, a reason to spend more money on headphones. It does look a little like a modern K340 size/comfort/style - wise. I'd be interested in hearing what someone I know has to say about them. The impressions written by 'Ra97oR' on head-if sound promising, but I know nothing of this reviewer besides the terrible screen name. Looking forward to reading what Tyll has to say about them. HiWire Posted December 1, 2013 Report Posted December 1, 2013 Sound On Sound wrote positive reviews on the AKG K612 and K712 in this month's issue.
philodox Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Cool, thanks for the tip. Will see if I can pick up that issue this afternoon.
grawk Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 I imagine you won't be back after your 14 day warning period is up.
philodox Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 This was a good reminder though, need to check Chapters tonight to see if I can find a copy of that magazine.
Tyll Hertsens Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 They're not a zingy as the T1, but they ring a bit. Kinda sounds like there's always a triangle (the instrument) in the treble info. Measurements show a pretty severe double peak on initial 300Hz leading edge. Imaging and resolution aren't as good as the HD800, but I think I like the overall tonal character better. Very nice comfort and build quality. The included headphone stand is a nice touch, but the cable seems a bit cheezy for a $1500 headphone. 1
