grawk Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 except that no phones looked like that until theirs did.
Dusty Chalk Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 You mean, no phones looked like that until they started putting touchscreens on them. Touchscreen -- most common shape is rectangular. EDIT: alright, maybe not. It still strikes me as much as Yamaha's patent on FM synthesis.
Voltron Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 except that no phones looked like that until theirs did. That is utter bullshit fanboi. I'll post some pre-iPhone shit tomorrow. 1
guzziguy Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 It's easy to get a patent. Defending it is another thing.
Grand Enigma Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 This was my first "smart phone" got it around 2005-6
Hopstretch Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 The off-topic shit in this thread is almost as tedious as the on-topic shit.
grawk Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 I'm not really arguing it should be able to be patented, I just think the iphone did drastically change the direction phones were going. I honestly wish there were more variety, because innovation is good.
Grand Enigma Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 The off-topic shit in this thread is almost as tedious as the on-topic shit. At least the past few posts have discussed actual products 2
Voltron Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 Adding to the tedium, I just have to make a couple of points in response to that bogus timeline. First of all, that timeline is wrong because placing the Samsung F700 in December 2007 is a lie. The F700 was designed by Samsung in August 2006 before the iPhone was made public; Samsung got a Korean design patent for F700 that was filed in December 2006 before ANY of the iPhone patents were filed; the F700 was announced and shown at the Barcelona consumer electronics fair in February 2007, which was a month after the iPhone was announced; and it was first released in August 2007 while the iPhone was first released on June 29, 2007. The large rectangular screens that became available first with resistive touch technology and then with capacitive touch technology dictated that smartphones were going to be rectangular for the most part. Use by humans and storage in pockets dictates rounded outside corners for the most part because they are more ergonomic and approachable. I do not deny that Apple had an impact on how mobile phones looked, but there were rounded rectangle phones at Samsung and elsewhere for years prior to the iPhone. So, it is not correct to say they caused a drastic change -- function dictated the form before and since -- and the scope they claim for their patents is ludicrous. 2004 2005 2006 2007
roadtonowhere08 Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) At least the past few posts have discussed actual products HA! Yep, the modern form factor of smartphones is pretty much a given that they mostly go in pockets. Edit: (Oops, Voltron got that already) I do, however, find it funny that before the iPhone, there was what looked like an arms race to the smallest flip phone possible. Now, its the opposite. But, back on topic.... fuck Light Harmonic. Edited May 15, 2014 by roadtonowhere08
Nebby Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Has Light Harmonic actually delivered product to people? I think I've seen a few unboxing videos, but they seem to have been done by review sites.
blessingx Posted May 16, 2014 Author Report Posted May 16, 2014 I think the Out has made it to the majority of sponsors at this point. At least I know several. Haven't heard myself though.
skullguise Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 I think they have hit all "backers" but no pre-orders yet.... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Dusty Chalk Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 Thanks for that post, Al, I wasn't finding it tedious. I suspect everyone has a topic about which they become cranky (I think we all know one of my main ones), and this is just one of theirs.
Filburt Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 They seem to be pretty good at delivering new indiegogo campaigns. Maybe they should have an indiegogo campaign to deliver future indiegogo campaigns, to show that they can deliver something promptly. 1
justin Posted May 19, 2014 Report Posted May 19, 2014 Has Light Harmonic actually delivered product to people? I think I've seen a few unboxing videos, but they seem to have been done by review sites. i think they shipped that thing that breaks off your USB port but maybe it was just big time reviewers/shills that got theirs. i havent followed it closely enough. i have no idea how many things they are 'making' now
justin Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) http://www.audiostream.com/content/third-times-charm these things are non-refundable and people still sign up? really? Edited May 20, 2014 by justin
Nebby Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 are they non-refundable? Looking on the kickstarter page it looks like the payment plan has the no refund note.
Dusty Chalk Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 I sure hope that goes away. People like these people are going to ruin Kickstarter. Also, lollers @ "You got my money I hoe I get my Geek Out his week." You're a what...?
Nebby Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 I'm still amazed that there's actually a payment plan option. FFS, it's a funding campaign!
Filburt Posted May 21, 2014 Report Posted May 21, 2014 I'm still amazed that there's actually a payment plan option. FFS, it's a funding campaign! Whoa. Uh...I'm at least a bit surprised that kickstarter permits that.
Cee Tee Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) Al, always wondered: did Palm/Samsung have any special patents around the icons on the screen of the SPH-i300? I had one of these in 2001 and loved it: http://zatz.com/computingunplugged/article/the-samsung-sph-i300-a-great-combination-device/ Edited May 28, 2014 by Cee Tee
justin Posted May 30, 2014 Report Posted May 30, 2014 This Geek Pulse can be yours for just 5 easy payments of $49.95, but you need to call now. 1
Hopstretch Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 Ron McGee. Tits McGee. What's the difference?
