skullguise Posted September 30, 2020 Report Posted September 30, 2020 Not a celebrity, but a great guy and unique character. I worked with Dan B for 3-4 years, he was a Project Manager in IT. Bright, outgoing, almost always a positive attitude but had a sarcasm streak a mile wide in smaller/more comfortable groups. I often use the Dr. Evil saying "How about NO, you crazy Dutch bastard) in reply to someone asking for something they won't get....that practice started with Dan when he embarrassingly asked me (on behalf of the business users) if we could change what we just worked on for almost 6 months so they could do it another way. I showed him that video clip, and we had a great laugh.... A bunch of us from that company (the survivors as we call ourselves) keep in touch via regular gatherings and now Zoom calls. Dan would always gently bow out (he was farther away, and often very busy). The first picture below is from a long-term friend, and the later one is more how I knew him. Not sure of cause yet....but still too young!! RIP Dan, another one of the good guys gone.... 10
dsavitsk Posted September 30, 2020 Report Posted September 30, 2020 Helen Reddy. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/29/arts/music/helen-reddy-dead.html I remember my mom picking me up from Montessori school with Helen Reddy playing, loudly. 1 5
skullguise Posted September 30, 2020 Report Posted September 30, 2020 RIP Helen.... And just heard Mac Davis too....also 78 like Helen. I never realized he wrote In The Ghetto for Elvis..... 2
swt61 Posted September 30, 2020 Report Posted September 30, 2020 Helen had given most of her money to charity years ago. She lived in Australia in a small apartment, on a fixed income. She said she was the happiest she'd ever been. Glad you had some good years, RIP. RIP Mac Davis. 2
Pars Posted September 30, 2020 Report Posted September 30, 2020 RIP Helen and Mac Davis. I still remember Mac with Nick Nolte in North Dallas Forty... I also laugh when I remember the alternate parody lyrics to "I Am Woman" that I saw somewhere years ago.
morphsci Posted September 30, 2020 Report Posted September 30, 2020 RIP Gale, Dan B., Helen and Mac. 2020 just keeps on giving, Fuck.

Sherwood Posted October 1, 2020 Report Posted October 1, 2020 (edited) https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/police-ukraine-investigate-death-us-embassy-employee-73358211 Wife of a colleague in neighboring Ukraine passed away, today. Authorities are simultaneously investigating murder and accidental death due to a collision with a train. Either is heartbreaking. State is a big organization, and anytime someone connected to the embassy dies it makes the news. I did not know the woman who passed or her family, but she had four children. Terrible news. blessingx Posted October 1, 2020 Report Posted October 1, 2020 ^ Very sad either way. Can’t count the number of times Mac Davis’ Baby, Don't Get Hooked On Me 8-track was played in our home and car growing up.
swt61 Posted October 1, 2020 Report Posted October 1, 2020 We had the same 8 track. As a kid, I thought 'Hard to be Humble' was hilarious. 1
