swt61 Posted July 30, 2020 Report Posted July 30, 2020 And in the end, it was an Orange alien that got him.
blessingx Posted July 31, 2020 Report Posted July 31, 2020 (edited) Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto dies at 76 Unapologetically flamboyant, he shaped the look of David Bowie’s alter ego and also worked with Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Lady Gaga. https://www.dezeen.com/2020/07/29/japanese-fashion-designer-kansai-yamamoto-dies-at-76/ https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/27/fashion/kansai-yamamoto-david-bowie-japanese-fashion-designer-dies.html?referringSource=articleShare Edited July 31, 2020 by blessingx 1 6
Grahame Posted August 1, 2020 Report Posted August 1, 2020 (edited) BBC News - Sir Alan Parker, director of Bugsy Malone and Evita, dies aged 76https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53615659 RIP Sir Alan Parker You might be familiar with some of his work. https://www.rollingstone.com/movies/movie-news/alan-parker-the-wall-midnight-express-dead-obituary-1037589/ https://variety.com/2020/film/global/alan-parker-dies-bugsy-malone-midnight-express-1234722160/ “When I go to film festivals and they show my films, they always include The Wall and it’s always packed out. So it always appears wimpy to say I hated making it. I have mellowed a bit, and say it was a ‘tortured but highly creative time’. Not to be repeated.” https://www.loudersound.com/features/the-making-of-pink-floyd-the-wall-the-movie Edited August 1, 2020 by Grahame 7
RudeWolf Posted August 1, 2020 Report Posted August 1, 2020 They finally pulled the plug on Innerfidelity. It was a sad spectacle with the new editor and his "lifestyle" direction, but at least now it's over. 2 2 2

It was a sad spectacle with the new editor and his "lifestyle" direction, but at least now it's over. I'm somewhat glad of that, Innefidelity was Tyll's child and no one, less that stupid pretentious ignorant of an editor they hired, would replace him. What they were trying to do, which is converting headphones into another unknowing rich people niche of consumerism at absurdly unreachable prices, won't work. Now if they want to keep a working headphones magazine they need to hire someone knowing about sound, music and headphones. 11

ilikebananafudge Posted August 1, 2020 Report Posted August 1, 2020 I hope they make all of Tyll's measurements available somewhere... 3

tin ear Posted August 1, 2020 Report Posted August 1, 2020 just shows to go ya that not everyone is expendable. innerfidelity continued in name only without Tyll. i deleted the bookmark today without a second thought. 3
TMoney Posted August 1, 2020 Report Posted August 1, 2020 What a joke to turn it over to the person they did. I am glad it is ending. No one was going to follow up Tyll, but they at least could have picked someone who wanted to keep the balance between objective measurements and subjective reviews that Tyll walked so expertly. 1
RudeWolf Posted August 1, 2020 Report Posted August 1, 2020 I actually enjoyed what Grover Neville was writing there. My general beef with most reviewers out there is that none have the technical expertise to call out mfg's on their bullshit. At best they might give less-than-max stars and tell that the product might satisfy someone out there. Rtings is doing a decent job at reviewing cans, but their focus is the consumer market. I tried to kinda replicate Tyll's style to some degree when I was reviewing stuff for Sonarworks, but well... they too turned to consumers for the pie in the sky.
Voltron Posted August 2, 2020 Report Posted August 2, 2020 RIP Wilford Brimley. It's the right thing to do. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/08/01/obituaries/wilford-brimley-dead.amp.html 5
blessingx Posted August 2, 2020 Report Posted August 2, 2020 “Tony, as he was known, dropped out of school at 14 and worked as a cowboy in Idaho, Nevada and Arizona before enlisting in the Marine Corps, which sent him to the Aleutian Islands. After leaving the service, he worked as a ranch hand, wrangler and blacksmith. Briefly, he was a bodyguard for Howard Hughes.” 3
skullguise Posted August 2, 2020 Report Posted August 2, 2020 RIP Mr. Brimley.... Such an interesting history! In addition to what Ric quoted: "He had a pleasant singing voice and recorded several albums of jazz standards, including “This Time the Dream’s on Me” and “Wilford Brimley With the Jeff Hamilton Trio.” He could more than hold his own as a guitarist too" 1
mikeymad Posted August 2, 2020 Report Posted August 2, 2020 RIP Tony - a scene I like There are lots of bit parts like this where he killed it. 2
robm321 Posted August 2, 2020 Report Posted August 2, 2020 RIP Mr. Brimley. I didn't know his history, but it explains his distinct character as an actor.
blessingx Posted August 2, 2020 Report Posted August 2, 2020 One of those weird stats concerning Brimley playing older characters - Tom Cruise is now nine years older than when Brimley was "elderly" in 1985s Cocoon. 1 3 1
blessingx Posted August 3, 2020 Report Posted August 3, 2020 Leon Fleisher RIP Unable to use his right hand, he performed pieces written for left hand only, conducted and taught. After 30 years, he made a triumphant two-handed comeback. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/aug/03/leon-fleisher-us-pianist-dies-92-lost-use-right-hand?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other 4

skullguise Posted August 3, 2020 Report Posted August 3, 2020 ^^ RIP Bill English. Interesting, too, that his invention was 3 years before Xerox PARC; I always though it was AT Xerox....
ironbut Posted August 4, 2020 Report Posted August 4, 2020 Astonishing footage of the explosion in Beirut today. RIP at least 10 dead in this event! 6
