Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto dies at 76

Unapologetically flamboyant, he shaped the look of David Bowie’s alter ego and also worked with Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Lady Gaga.

RIP Sir Alan Parker

You might be familiar with some of his work.

“When I go to film festivals and they show my films, they always include The Wall and it’s always packed out. So it always appears wimpy to say I hated making it. I have mellowed a bit, and say it was a ‘tortured but highly creative time’. Not to be repeated.”

They finally pulled the plug on Innerfidelity. It was a sad spectacle with the new editor and his "lifestyle" direction, but at least now it's over.

I'm somewhat glad of that, Innefidelity was Tyll's child and no one, less that stupid pretentious ignorant of an editor they hired, would replace him. What they were trying to do, which is converting headphones into another unknowing rich people niche of consumerism at absurdly unreachable prices, won't work. Now if they want to keep a working headphones magazine they need to hire someone knowing about sound, music and headphones.

just shows to go ya that not everyone is expendable. innerfidelity continued in name only without Tyll. i deleted the bookmark today without a second thought.

What a joke to turn it over to the person they did. I am glad it is ending.

No one was going to follow up Tyll, but they at least could have picked someone who wanted to keep the balance between objective measurements and subjective reviews that Tyll walked so expertly.

I actually enjoyed what Grover Neville was writing there. My general beef with most reviewers out there is that none have the technical expertise to call out mfg's on their bullshit. At best they might give less-than-max stars and tell that the product might satisfy someone out there. Rtings is doing a decent job at reviewing cans, but their focus is the consumer market. I tried to kinda replicate Tyll's style to some degree when I was reviewing stuff for Sonarworks, but well... they too turned to consumers for the pie in the sky.

“Tony, as he was known, dropped out of school at 14 and worked as a cowboy in Idaho, Nevada and Arizona before enlisting in the Marine Corps, which sent him to the Aleutian Islands. After leaving the service, he worked as a ranch hand, wrangler and blacksmith. Briefly, he was a bodyguard for Howard Hughes.”

RIP Mr. Brimley....

Such an interesting history!  In addition to what Ric quoted:

"He had a pleasant singing voice and recorded several albums of jazz standards, including “This Time the Dream’s on Me” and “Wilford Brimley With the Jeff Hamilton Trio.” He could more than hold his own as a guitarist too"

One of those weird stats concerning Brimley playing older characters - Tom Cruise is now nine years older than when Brimley was "elderly" in 1985s Cocoon.
