Dusty Chalk Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 I have never laughed harder than I have at some of those skits on the Carol Burnett show. As hard, maybe; harder, no. The world is a less jovial place. 2
Voltron Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 RIP TIM. McHale's Navy is really what I think of first... 2
sbelyo Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 The Longshot is one of my favorites. The toilet bowl scene is classic
HemiSam Posted May 16, 2019 Report Posted May 16, 2019 RIP, Mr. Conway....you made me laugh more times than I can thank you for. HS 1

Hopstretch Posted May 21, 2019 Report Posted May 21, 2019 Hell of a driver. Hell of a personality. RIP Niki.
Grahame Posted May 21, 2019 Report Posted May 21, 2019 RIP Niki. See Rush if you haven't. ( It's on Netflix)
Pars Posted May 21, 2019 Report Posted May 21, 2019 (edited) RIP Niki. Rush was a hell of a movie! Edited May 21, 2019 by Pars
mikeymad Posted May 21, 2019 Report Posted May 21, 2019 RIP Niki. Godspeed..F1s and the rest of us loss.
ironbut Posted May 21, 2019 Report Posted May 21, 2019 RIP Niki! He was my favorite driver during my early days of following F1 in print. They used to call him Super Rat because of his teeth but after his tractor accident and surviving the fire, his determination and drive became legendary and you seldom heard that nickname again. I'll miss seeing him in the paddock.
Torpedo Posted May 21, 2019 Report Posted May 21, 2019 Rest in peace, Niki. For some time he was my favourite driver too. I enjoyed his interviews on recent F1 broadcasts. Will be missed.
Voltron Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 I don't know anything about his music but I've listened to a whole lot of 4AD records since it was founded. RIP and fuck cancer.
Dusty Chalk Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 He started out as a pop singer as part of the Walker Brothers, but did some really interesting post-rock/experimental/avant-garde in the last couple decades. You may remember the “I punched a donkey...” song that was haunting several of us a while back. It’s quite dissonant and not for everyone, but for those of us that crave that sort of thing, it’s something special. Anyway, that’s what I will remember him for, those three albums, Climate of Hunter, Tilt, The Drift.
skullguise Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 Tilt was wild.....his voice was pretty amazing as well. Wasn't he supposed to be kind of a "crooner" type early on? I think he was being groomed to be one of those easy-listening/ballad type singers. I'd say he "somewhat" veered from that path. 1
Dusty Chalk Posted May 24, 2019 Report Posted May 24, 2019 Not just groomed, they had two #1 hits. And yes, totally straightforward vocal-forward pop: 1
blessingx Posted May 24, 2019 Report Posted May 24, 2019 Don’t forget the doc 30th Century Man. It’s on Prime. 1 1

Okay, I stand somewhat corrected. He did go solo after The Walker Brothers in the same style: Before he...uh...veered off path. 1
Wmcmanus Posted May 27, 2019 Author Report Posted May 27, 2019 (edited) RIP Bart Starr, 85, quarterback for the Green Bay Packers in their Super Bowl years in the early to mid 60s. RIP, Bill Buckner, 69, a great baseball player for the Dodgers, Cubs and Red Sox, infamous for the routine ground ball the went between his legs while playing first base for the Red Sox in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series. He lived it down with a great deal self effacing humor. Fuck dementia. Edited May 27, 2019 by Wmcmanus
