Voltron Posted September 17, 2019 Report Posted September 17, 2019 (edited) RIP Cokie Roberts. I loved her voice and her approach to journalism and her style. Fuck cancer. https://www.npr.org/2019/09/17/761050916/cokie-roberts-pioneering-female-journalist-who-helped-shape-npr-dies-at-75 Edited September 17, 2019 by Voltron 2
ironbut Posted September 17, 2019 Report Posted September 17, 2019 A very sad day for journalism in America indeed! RIP Cokie! I'll miss your insight and kind voice.
Aimless1 Posted September 17, 2019 Report Posted September 17, 2019 (edited) I will miss her. RIP Cokie. Edited September 17, 2019 by Aimless1
mikeymad Posted September 17, 2019 Report Posted September 17, 2019 RIP Cokie - I use to watch her all the time on "This Week with David Brinkley" back in the day. She will be missed.
skullguise Posted September 18, 2019 Report Posted September 18, 2019 RIP to a Grande Dame in journalism!
mikeymad Posted September 24, 2019 Report Posted September 24, 2019 RIP - thanks for the " long, strange trip"
Dusty Chalk Posted September 24, 2019 Report Posted September 24, 2019 Aron Eisenberg, aka Nog the Ferengi, frequently quoting The Rules Of Acquisition, dead at 50. RIP, Nog.
sbelyo Posted September 25, 2019 Report Posted September 25, 2019 I didn't see this posted so I'll do it RiP Sid Haig... https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/23/movies/sid-haig-dead-captain-spaulding.html I'm a big captain spaulding fan. Devil's Rejects is GOLD.
skullguise Posted September 25, 2019 Report Posted September 25, 2019 RIP Robert, Aron, and Sid..... For the latter, I liked House of 1,000 Corpses as well as Devil's Rejects
MexicanDragon Posted September 25, 2019 Report Posted September 25, 2019 House of 1,000 Corpses was the first movie Zoe ever went to in theatres (at 6 months old.) I wound up watching that movie 50-100 times, and definitely appreciated the Captain. RIP, Sid. 1
HemiSam Posted September 28, 2019 Report Posted September 28, 2019 Rough run, but he did not take the easy path. RIP Mr. Wilson. RIP Sid and Aron. Godspeed RH.... HS 1
guzziguy Posted September 28, 2019 Report Posted September 28, 2019 RIP Mr. Wilson. I'll always admire you for doing what so few in Washington do these days, showing integrity. 1
skullguise Posted September 28, 2019 Report Posted September 28, 2019 RIP Joseph Wilson. Also admired his desire to do the right thing. Showed (once again) a very nasty side of politics, with everything he and his wife had to endure....
Craig Sawyers Posted October 1, 2019 Report Posted October 1, 2019 RIP Jessye Norman, one of the finest classical sopranos there have been. In full glory as Sieglinde in die Walkure https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-49887748 3
Craig Sawyers Posted October 1, 2019 Report Posted October 1, 2019 And in two of my absolute favourite pieces - the finale Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde, and Im Abendrot from Richard Strauss's Four Last Songs, both of which bring me to tears. 1
Pars Posted October 1, 2019 Report Posted October 1, 2019 (edited) RIP Jessye... her Four Last Songs recording/performance was wonderful. Funny, I saw the CSO do the Nielsen 4th earlier this year, paired with Four Last Songs. The soprano on that couldn't hold a candle to Ms. Norman. Edited October 2, 2019 by Pars
Voltron Posted October 1, 2019 Report Posted October 1, 2019 RIP Jessye RIP Super Rhyme, aka Jimmy Spicer https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/09/30/arts/music/jimmy-spicer-dead.amp.html
mikeymad Posted October 1, 2019 Report Posted October 1, 2019 (edited) RIP Rhymes.. RIP Jessye... Will listen to one of the recordings I have when I get home. (ed: oops - I meant the copy of Lohengrin) Edited October 1, 2019 by mikeymad 1
Craig Sawyers Posted October 2, 2019 Report Posted October 2, 2019 I must buy that - the whole idea of Domingo and Norman in Lohengrin is just too awesome. We were lucky enough to see one of the other three tenors - Jose Carreras - in one of Hampton Court Palace quadrangles, maybe 20 years ago. We had seats in about row four (on a corporate hospitality junket). In my rush to get to our seats, Carole said "did you see who you just shouldered out of the way?" - "er, no" "John Cleese". Oops. He was about ten rows behind us... That was one hell of a treat. VIP seats dead centre about ten feet from Carreras, with piano accompaniment. 1
