Sechtdamon Posted January 1, 2017 Report Posted January 1, 2017 @skullguise @guzziguy I'm okey Sirs. Thanks for the concern. I knew that shit was going to happen somewhere, and stayed at home yesterday. Again government and the religious group's leaders gave fatwa against celebrating new year. So this happens... RIP all. I heard the silences of ambulances all night. So many young people died. 9 Quote

Craig Sawyers Posted January 9, 2017 Report Posted January 9, 2017 Bit of a one-hit guy - but what a hit! RIP Peter Sarstedt. Too young at 75. That single song was a real part of my youth. Quote
swt61 Posted January 9, 2017 Report Posted January 9, 2017 Must have been more of a British hit, as I don't recall the song. Certainly sounds of the era. Quote
Craig Sawyers Posted January 9, 2017 Report Posted January 9, 2017 Apparently "In the United States, the record reached #61 on the Cash Box Top 100 Singles. The single also peaked at #70 on the Billboard Hot 100 that May". So it was never a blockbuster in the US, but did OK. Quote
Aura Posted January 10, 2017 Report Posted January 10, 2017 Farewell Parker Beam. Bravely fought ALS and raised a bunch of cash for others. Oh and his namesake, Parkers Heritage, had some pretty fucking good whiskey too. http://www.fredminnick.com/2017/01/09/parker-beam-passed-away/ Quote
Voltron Posted January 10, 2017 Report Posted January 10, 2017 Parker Beam was a true gentleman. I met him at a liquor store and he signed Heritage bottles for me and Naaman, I believe. RIP Parker. And fuck ALS! 2 Quote
skullguise Posted January 10, 2017 Report Posted January 10, 2017 RIP, indeed a great and gentle man. ALS is a horrible disease, my son's schoolmate watched his dad suffer and die from it while he (the classmate) was less than 15 years old..... Quote

HemiSam Posted January 17, 2017 Report Posted January 17, 2017 RIP Mr. Cernan. We were fortunate to have him speak at one of my son's school events some years back. HS 2 Quote
Craig Sawyers Posted January 17, 2017 Report Posted January 17, 2017 (edited) RIP Mr Cernan, the last moon man. One RIP I missed was Leo Beranek, who died in August '16. I missed it because it looked like the guy would live for ever - he made 102 and worked right to the wire. It is sobering to think that he was born the year the first world war broke out. He wrote the definitive book on acoustics in 1954, called Acoustics which every practitioner of the subject has (I have). Harvard, MIT, chairman of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, adviser to General Radio. He was also a concert grade pianist. He also wrote a major text in 1962 called Music, Acoustics, and Architecture, which analyzes the acoustics of 55 of the prime concert halls around the world. He revised and updated it in 2004 at the age of 90 to include 100 halls. I have a personally signed copy of that. RIP Leo Beranek Edited January 17, 2017 by Craig Sawyers Quote
guzziguy Posted January 17, 2017 Report Posted January 17, 2017 RIP Capt. Cernan. RIP Mr. Beranek. You led a remarkable life. Quote
