Craig Sawyers Posted February 19, 2016 Report Posted February 19, 2016 That is another of the greats gone. We studied To Kill a Mockingbird in English studies at school in the UK in 1972. At least she got in a sequel before the end of her very long life.
skullguise Posted February 20, 2016 Report Posted February 20, 2016 RIP to two more.......continuing to be a hell of a year.....
TMoney Posted February 20, 2016 Report Posted February 20, 2016 Damn, Umberto Eco too? Goodness, horrible day for 20th Century Lit.

Craig Sawyers Posted February 20, 2016 Report Posted February 20, 2016 Very sad. Eco's books were never an easy read, with many layers of meaning (try Foucault's Pendulum) but always worth reading and then re-reading. Eco himself said that he probably wrote for masochists. 2

I mean, considering the world's population and all of the people who have done great things with their lives, plus the fact that none of us gets much time in the grand scheme of things. So it's a celebration and a way to say thanks as well. Still depressing as hell at times though. I'll give you that.
Dusty Chalk Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 Riverside guitarist Piotr Grudzinski Goddammit. I had a ticket last fall and forgot to go. They were about to go on tour (which I'm sure is now cancelled, because I doubt they can find a replacement in time). Goddammit.
guzziguy Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 Just caught this on NPR today. RIP Renato Bialetti, inventor of the Moka Espresso maker. Here is an article about him in the NY Times. 1
Guss2 Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 George Kennedy died yesterday. Liked him a lot and 91 is not too bad.
emelius Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 had no idea he had still been alive... nobody can eat 50 eggs... R.I.P.... 4
moray james Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 Roy Allison American Loudspeaker designer has passed away yesterday. I don't have any details. Roy was a ground breaker and an independent thinker. Roy was 88 and still in the business. Sad loss RIP Roy.
skullguise Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 RIP Roy.....I heard several of his speakers "back in the day" (early 80's), some very good products for the time.....
acidbasement Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 (edited) Drink! Feck! Arse! Girls! Frank Kelly, who played Father Jack Hackett, is late. Edited March 2, 2016 by acidbasement
Hopstretch Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 Father Ted also did Trump long before he was a thing. RIP Dermot Morgan. 1
acidbasement Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 I use Father Ted samples for all my cellphone ringtones. It screams "ARSE!" at me whenever a text comes in. People who might disapprove of that sort of thing generally can't understand Frank Kelly's drunk enunciation. 2
Craig Sawyers Posted March 5, 2016 Report Posted March 5, 2016 Ironically Frank Kelley died on the same day as Dermot Morgan (the guy who played Father Ted) 18 years ago. At least Kelley got to 77; Morgan died suddenly at age 45, which was what finished off the immensely enjoyable sitcom. Feck! Arse! Drink! Women! 1
Absorbine_Sr Posted March 5, 2016 Report Posted March 5, 2016 RIP Frank Kelly. I say this every time I see Trump, Rubio or Cruz on TV. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
