Not a trekkie either, but Spock was an iconic character who has always reminded me of the simpler times and of my happy, small town childhood.  You played him oh so well Mr. Nimoy.  RIP.

Dislike!

If one was to somehow average out the impact any actor has had on me, Leonard Nemoy probably wins. Definitely the loss of whom I have felt most in the 16 months or so that this thread has existed.

Good piece - Remembering Leonard Nimoy’s Mr. Spock, One of History’s Greatest TV Characters
http://www.vulture.com/2015/02/remembering-leonard-nimoys-mr-spock.html?mid=twitter_nymag

"The show's affinity for Shakespearean flourishes is well-documented, but in in a sense, Spock himself might be the most Bard-like character of them all: He's a green-blooded Othello who has to be twice as good as the full-blooded human officers to earn their respect, and who must tamp down his natural passions despite constant racist needling and doubts about his loyalty."

His death has hit me a lot harder than I'd expected.

RIP Minnie Minoso, another pioneer in terms of race relations in professional sports.  http://www.wsj.com/articles/minnie-minoso-mlbs-first-black-latino-star-dies-1425232870

My dad, who grew up watching him play and was a huge White Sox fan for his entire life, just thought the world of him and always felt that he should have made the Hall of Fame.  They had their chance again this year (via the veterans committee) and yet again blew it.  Now that he's dead, I'm sure the schmucks will finally elect him in like they did several years ago with Ron Santo.

Wow, RIP Orin Keepnews.  Indeed, he is responsible for a lot of great music sounding great.  I just got a Clark Terry album "Serenade To A Bus Seat" and that's Keepnews....will be even more a special listen now.....

His record of achievements is phonominal and spans many decades before and after Star Trek.  What an immensely talented and versatile actor and producer.

RIP Mr. Spock...
