grawk Posted July 15, 2014 Report Posted July 15, 2014 That andy griffith story was trending on facebook as I was driving through Mt Airy, NC (the "real" Mayberry) on sunday. 1
skullguise Posted July 17, 2014 Report Posted July 17, 2014 Oh, man, too early.....RIP, bluesman......
MoonShine Posted July 17, 2014 Report Posted July 17, 2014 This was one of my favorite albums (on my trusty Realistic 8-track) when I was 14 or so. RIP Johnny.
blessingx Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 RIP Elaine Stritch http://youtu.be/zQysjiUA68U
blessingx Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 James Garner, star of 'Maverick' and 'The Rockford Files,' dies at 86 http://www.latimes.com/local/obituaries/la-me-james-garner-dies-20140720-story.html
Absorbine_Sr Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 I need to watch Frankenheimer's "Grand Prix" again very soon. RIP James Garner. 1
agile_one Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 RIP, Maverick. Loved his later roles, and movies, too, but Bret Maverick was the man in our house when I was a kid.
swt61 Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 If I had to pick a favorite JG film it'd have to be Murphy's Romance. RIP Jim.
skullguise Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 I liked him in many things, a little young for the Maverick series but saw a fair amount on repeats. Rockford files, SO many movies..... A couple of my favorites were the "Support Your Local...." movies (Sheriff, Gunfighter). He had a great way about him that could combine dramatic and comedic roles well. RIP.
guzziguy Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 One of my all time favorites. Victor/Victoria is probably my favorite JG movie. RIP Big Jim. 2
Voltron Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 Clear personal favorite movie role was the Scrounger in The Great Escape. Rockford Files was my favorite show for years and then like Todd I watched Maverick in syndication. RIP Rockfish.
ironbut Posted July 20, 2014 Report Posted July 20, 2014 A great all American actor! It was tough not to feel a personal connection with just about every character he played. He will continue to touch generations to come. Rip Rockfish.
blessingx Posted July 31, 2014 Report Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) RIP Dick Smith, 'The Godfather of Makeup' (Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, The Godfather, Little Big Man, Marathon Man, The Exorcist, Amadeus, etc.). http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=41795 Edited July 31, 2014 by blessingx 1

Wmcmanus Posted August 1, 2014 Author Report Posted August 1, 2014 My aunt June died this morning at her home in Colorado after a long battle with cancer. She was 82 and preceded in death by her first husband of 25 years now some 25 years ago, and is survived by her second husband of some 25 years who has now lost two wives to cancer. Nice lady, although you always knew where you stood with her! June was 10 years older than my mom, who absolutely adored her and has been back and forth from Illinois to Colorado 5 or 6 times since January trying to do what she could to be supportive. I think this has conjured back up a lot of memories from my dad's battle with cancer and death 7 years ago. It sure is hell getting old... but she was surrounded by love from her children, grandkids and great-grandkids for months and it's good that she's no longer suffering. Enjoy it while you've got it, kids. She sure did.
