By and large the London Underground does pretty well.  It transports well over 1.2 billion passengers a year.  I use it regularly.  A case in point was travelling back from Oxford Circus at peak commuter time on the Bakerloo to Paddington station yesterday.  I got on the platform as one train pulled out, and 1 minute later the next one arrived.  I got a seat. That is typical despite what @angryflatcap says.
