GrindingThud Posted July 10, 2016 Report Posted July 10, 2016 Definitely putting this on the list of builds! Quote
Kerry Posted July 10, 2016 Report Posted July 10, 2016 (edited) I had some comments back so I've made the following changes: I reversed the SE and balanced outputs I fixed a mistake in the schematic for the negative off-board voltage regulator Thanks to Kevin (of course), Birgir, Marshall and Joachim for your feedback Here's what might be the final... HemiSam Posted July 10, 2016 Report Posted July 10, 2016 Now I can see... So much win in that little package! HS Quote
johnwmclean Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 This is a good reason to get back into dynamics, awesome work Kerry. Alpha will only do a 1000 pc order last time I checked. Quote
Kerry Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 We'll have to look into options. I've sent the board out to manufacturing so we can prototype it 2 Quote
purk Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 This would be my dream "take-it-every-where" setup. Quote
wink Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 I want 2 of 'em. Well, just because......... 1 Quote
kevin gilmore Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 birgir has a large pile of the 10k alpha parts Quote
justin Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 maybe i just got a bad batch, but i had a lot of trouble with the Alpha pots and plan to stop offering it in the GS-X mk2. A large percentage of them have a noticeable lump at a particular point when turning it. Sometimes you have to have a large knob attached first and then turn it slowly to find the spot. but around half of them ended up in the trash Quote
spritzer Posted July 11, 2016 Author Report Posted July 11, 2016 It must have been a bad batch as these work perfectly. Some of my first ones had the center bump but I returned all of them. Quote
kevin gilmore Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 fine, cram the new digital attenuator in there. should be enough room. 1 Quote

RudeWolf Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) SMD, SMPS... Blasphemy! I'm actually super proud to see HC finally embracing the newer tech. How do these SMPS'es look under the scope? Does extra after-regulation help? Edited July 11, 2016 by RudeWolf Quote

I started thinking about it. A couple of daughter boards might do the trick. It would be nice to have a modular solution. Quote
gepardcv Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 I'm in for whatever group buys emerge from this terrific design. Quote
Pars Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 Very cool Kerry! Subscribed! Very nice board layout as well. What did you use for that? Quote
Kerry Posted July 11, 2016 Report Posted July 11, 2016 Thanks. The design was done in DipTrace v3. I've been using it for a while and like it. Quote
justin Posted July 12, 2016 Report Posted July 12, 2016 The best layout software is the one you know how to use 2 Quote
Mister X Posted July 12, 2016 Report Posted July 12, 2016 Unless that software is ExpressPCB. Quote I'd love to try my hand at building one, though it sounds a bit beyond hand tools http://www.rocketscream.com/shop/reflow-oven-controller-shield-arduino-compatible Quote
