VPI Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 Hi Guys, I figured I would post this to my friends here at HC. I certainly support the cause as a Type 1 Diabetic and I do not believe I will have any trouble meeting my numbers but any support for the cause means a lot to me. My Page: http://main.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/A1WDC-DistrictofColumbiaMetroArea?px=8725939&pg=personal&fr_id=8619 Thanks, Jeff 3
skullguise Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 Done, good luck on the ride. Lost a HS acquaintance to Diabetes complications, glad to donate.
agile_one Posted April 22, 2013 Report Posted April 22, 2013 Done. Break a leg, Jeff .... No, wait, that's for show biz - have a great ride, then.
Dreadhead Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 Done! Good luck and enjoy the ride Jeff!
VPI Posted April 23, 2013 Author Report Posted April 23, 2013 It is a testament to the group here that I met my original goal within an hour of posting here. So in typical HC style I guess I just raise my goal. Your generosity is much appreciated guys.
MexicanDragon Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 Done. Congrats on the goal, Jeff! Hope you have a great ride! **BRENT**
VPI Posted April 24, 2013 Author Report Posted April 24, 2013 Thanks everyone. 24 hours later I am right on the verge of $1k in donations. The greatest majority from HC people. Really appreciate the donations. 1
VPI Posted May 16, 2013 Author Report Posted May 16, 2013 Finally have the bike set up to the way I like it. Upgraded to the 2013 SRAM Red front derailleur to take advantage of the yaw control and have the seat setup up properly thanks to Chris' input. Should be a nice long ride. Just a couple of weeks to go. Thanks everyone for all the donations.
Dreadhead Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Great to hear that my input helped you out on getting your fit dialed in. I can't believe your shop didn't help you out with that.
Dusty Chalk Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 Tomorrow is ride-to-work day. Just sayin'.
VPI Posted May 16, 2013 Author Report Posted May 16, 2013 I would like to but I also want to take the camera gear in since it looks like rain all weekend and I want to try the teleconverter at the National Zoo. Don't know that I want to commute into DC with all that gear on my back.
VPI Posted May 23, 2013 Author Report Posted May 23, 2013 Made it to Hill Climber designation last night by surpassing the $1500 limit. I assume this means they will provide a volunteer to push me up hills during the ride. 2
grawk Posted May 24, 2013 Report Posted May 24, 2013 congrats! How much would that be in tennessee dollars?
VPI Posted May 30, 2013 Author Report Posted May 30, 2013 Only three more days to the ride and I can't decide which bike to ride. I have been thinking Cervelo all along but the Calfee does seem more comfortable (especially on rough terrain) which might be a benefit over its weight disadvantage. Supposed to be humid and over 90 so I am trying to decide if I change out brake pads on the Calfee to put the Zipps on it and go for it or just stick with the Cervelo and the 2-3 pounds weight savings. Not really looking forward to this long ride in the hottest conditions I have ridden.
Dreadhead Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Jeff, after reading that I would recommend doing the wheel switch out and just riding the bike that is comfortable. It's worth it to be comfortable on the longer rides. I use swiss stop king pads that do both carbon and aluminum and I like them a lot on my aluminum rims though others have complained.
grawk Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 I think comfort will matter more than weight for a long ride
Voltron Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 I know nothing, but agree with these guys. Comfort is key. Good luck and stay hydrated!
