ironbut Posted November 30, 2020 Author Report Posted November 30, 2020 I was one of those idiots who hated the halos when they were proposed. Now I love them! A major reality check for F1. 2

A major reality check for F1. I still don't like the look of the halos, but it's hard to be opposed to effective safety measures in a motorsport like this. I don't think anyone would want to go back to the days of F1 when a high risk of death just came with the territory.
Torpedo Posted November 30, 2020 Report Posted November 30, 2020 Still Grosjean was lucky his car broke in two pieces right behind his back. Otherwise he might have caught trapped into the cockpit because of the halo, and be burnt alive.

The more you look at the replays of his escape, the more you realize how many lucky breaks led to his survival. On Grosjean's YT page there is a picture of him smiling from his hospital bed. I called him The Miracle Baby in the comments. 1

Torpedo Posted December 6, 2020 Report Posted December 6, 2020 Great race. I'm sorry for Russell, but I'm so so so happy for Checo If McLaren had been a little bit more clever reading the race and had gone to just one stop... Bottas definitely isn't Mercedes worth. 1
ironbut Posted December 6, 2020 Author Report Posted December 6, 2020 Can't remember a race that was more emotional that that one (maybe Massa's first retirement race in Brazil)!
ironbut Posted December 12, 2020 Author Report Posted December 12, 2020 (edited) Just listen to this! Mmmmmm Edited December 12, 2020 by ironbut 1
ironbut Posted December 15, 2020 Author Report Posted December 15, 2020 End of another exciting (perhaps too exciting at points) season. The compressed schedule was a little too much IMHO. Hopefully, it was an exception and otherwise, F1 did a great job of presenting the fans with some great entertainment. Personally, I don't like to see races without at least a weeks break in between. It seems less like a special event and just another tv show. Just my uninformed opinion. I will wait to make a judgement on the expanded season next year but it feels like Liberty may have too much control over the season.

ironbut Posted December 18, 2020 Author Report Posted December 18, 2020 I was hoping that would happen! A friend who grew up in Mexico City and became a major business man there, has taken his kids to see Checo race there every year (till 2020). He is not a racing fan but a proud Mexican.

Torpedo Posted February 12, 2021 Report Posted February 12, 2021 Oh crap. If all the damages he got is just a broken jaw, knowing him he'd be ready to drive on Bahrein, but if there's further damage, who knows.
ironbut Posted March 29, 2021 Author Report Posted March 29, 2021 Very exciting first race! I was standing for a good bit of the end of the race. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet but I will say it is worth a watch if you are waffling.
mikeymad Posted March 29, 2021 Report Posted March 29, 2021 Good opener. Seems like there is a making of a good season.
ironbut Posted June 6, 2021 Author Report Posted June 6, 2021 Azerbaijan was wild and wooly! I've come to enjoy the that race over the years. Well worth watching IMHO! 2
Torpedo Posted June 7, 2021 Report Posted June 7, 2021 I enjoyed the race, although I'm surprised that no one blamed Verstappen for what happened. Maybe he didn't need that much advantage nor hitting the fast lap. Monaco and Baku are my favourite races, those urban tracks are great, and Baku has the advantage of allowing overtakes.
mwl168 Posted June 21, 2021 Report Posted June 21, 2021 Good race in France, kept me at the edge of my seat till the last lap. Disappointed with the outcome - I was rooting for Hamilton. Seems like Mercedes need to work on their pitting strategy. It has costed them a couple of races just in the last few weeks. 2
Torpedo Posted August 1, 2021 Report Posted August 1, 2021 What a race!!! Fernando driver of the day for a reason. Alpine and Ocon must be very thankful. The second start is something I hadn't even imagined was possible 2
mwl168 Posted August 1, 2021 Report Posted August 1, 2021 Exciting and interesting race indeed. Still not impressed with Mercedes’ strategies. It probably costed them the race again. It was impressive that Hamilton fought all the way back to the podium. Now that the Mercedes no longer has the commanding lead in the pace of the cars, they ought to do better in the other departments to retain their world championships streak.
