Dreadhead Posted November 6, 2013 Report Posted November 6, 2013 I love mine too. I don't mind the wait for boot though I would prefer some instant feedback that it was waking up like a vibration or light. I tend to go through a moment of panic that it is not waking.
Edwood Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 Haha, yeah I feel the same way. Although mainly because of the previous sleep of death problem.
blessingx Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 Anyone thinking of.... ? 4K, $6k, 2hr battery 1
Dreadhead Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 For people who have not bought yet: the new Dell Venue Pro 11 also looks like a good option. Both it and the Sony are similar.
Dreadhead Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 In the WTF category my Type Cover 2 touchpad has de-laminated from and a huge bubble has formed in it and is now entirely useless. Microsoft better replace this free of charge. It'll have to wait until I get back but at least I have touch screen and pen input to get through for now.
Dusty Chalk Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Maybe it's a tumor virus parasite...?
Dreadhead Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 (edited) To be even odder I just called Microsoft to get my replacement and pulled out my Surface and the trackpad appears to have healed itself during my flight back from Barbados (I'm guessing on one of the flights). On hold with them to see if they will now replace it but I am doubtful. At least if if happens again I'll have a shortcut to replacement I guess. Edit: as expected no replacement for now. shellylh Posted December 20, 2013 Author Report Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) The Fujitsu Q704 is finally available for purchase in the US. I am thinking of getting this over the Surface Pro 2. Fujitsu computers aren't the cheapest but they've been building tablets for a while and know what they are doing. A friend of mine (in the next office over) has a Surface Pro 2 and he is finding a lot of small annoying issues with the Surface Pro 2 especially involving the Type keyboard 2 and pen. I also like the idea of having a 12" screen for notes and drawings. http://www.fujitsu.com/fts/products/computing/pc/notebooks-tablets/superior/stylistic-q704/ Edited December 20, 2013 by shellylh
Dreadhead Posted January 11, 2014 Report Posted January 11, 2014 Well that's a bit of an FU to everyone who bought this device less than 2 months ago: http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/microsoft-upgrades-surface-pro-2-cpu-without-fanfare/
shellylh Posted January 11, 2014 Author Report Posted January 11, 2014 Yet another reason I am glad that I didn't buy a Surface Pro 2.
Dreadhead Posted January 11, 2014 Report Posted January 11, 2014 I still love it but I am looking forward to the firmware update fix in a few days because I'm tired of having to hibernate. I'm glad I got it and I would do it again. After some further reading it appears that Intel probably cut them a better deal so they went with a higher processor and kept the price the same for future purchasers, sucks for me a bit but when I bought it I knew what I was getting. This happens all the time in consumer electronics.
nopants Posted January 11, 2014 Report Posted January 11, 2014 For those of you guys who don't need the compute power, you can look at the windows transformer book from asus. I picked this up because I wanted a passively cooled computer as a foobar slave. It's actually powerful enough for most basic tasks, I was pleasantly surprised.
nopants Posted April 28, 2014 Report Posted April 28, 2014 http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/119272/microsoft-store---microsoft-surface-pro-2-10.6-tablet-256gb-1069-128gb-799-64gb Microsoft Surface Pro 2 for 709, back to school sale. The Haswell part significantly reduces the fan activity from what I've been reading- I might get one for my sister who's heading off to college.
shellylh Posted April 28, 2014 Author Report Posted April 28, 2014 ^That's what I was thinking! It's actually a "graduation" sale.
nopants Posted April 28, 2014 Report Posted April 28, 2014 my mistake, I didn't think of graduation because they ask you to provide an edu address- my school nixed mine shortly after I left
cetoole Posted April 29, 2014 Report Posted April 29, 2014 (edited) I still have my .edu address, 5 years after graduation. Gosh, I am old. I use a Haswell Surface Pro at work pretty often, and the fan has never been obtrusive. Edited April 29, 2014 by cetoole
tkam Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 Very happy with my Surface Pro 3 it's an excellent device. I did have to replace the type cover twice before getting one that worked fully but Best Buy was good about that (very surprising). They did do a really nice job on the fan design, I don't hear it at all doing general computing like e-mail, web browsing, and even video playback. Anything really intensive and the fan does become audible though it's still quiet. 1
n_maher Posted October 8, 2015 Report Posted October 8, 2015 Some really (to me at least) interesting announcements from M$ this week.http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/devices/surface-bookhttp://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/devices/surface-pro-4
shellylh Posted October 8, 2015 Author Report Posted October 8, 2015 The Surface Book looks slightly interesting. The SP4 looks a lot like a lighter/faster SP3.
tkam Posted October 9, 2015 Report Posted October 9, 2015 I think I might have to pre-order a Surface Book. 1
n_maher Posted November 17, 2016 Report Posted November 17, 2016 So I've been playing with a Surface Pro 3 all week and I have to say, generally I'm very impressed. Windows 10 is way less awful than expected and the Surface itself is pretty awesome. I haven't reached for my iPad once. The real test will be upcoming travel where the plan is to only take the surface with me and see if I can survive a short trip. I think for content consumption it's more than adequate and the typecover is something I'd tried to implement on tablets before with terrible results. Granted, it's not a perfect solution but my #1 surprise is how much I like the hybrid experience of browsing with a touch screen but still having a trackpad for other things. Based on this I'll be eyeing the release of the rumored Surface 5 with interest. 2
tyrion Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 I'm digging my Surface 4 so far. It has some issues from time to time but nothing I can't deal with. The keyboard works well. When I am using it, I tend to use the trackpad instead of the touchscreen. Just habit I guess. Way better in my office than my 5.5 year old MBA but that is to be expected. I'm glad I opted for 16 gb and 512 drive. 3
