Jon L Posted June 22, 2015 Report Posted June 22, 2015 need to figure out some last bits and pieces with case feet and the potentiometer, but everything's working otherwise. it's been a while since I heard this amplifier, a lot of things to like. Very, very nice...
nopants Posted June 22, 2015 Report Posted June 22, 2015 What monster 12AU7's are those? yep telefunken e80cc. requires 2x the 12au7 filament current, so I'm more or less banking on the antek to be able to supply ~20% more than the official rating. This is still in line with what they write on their site. Also happy to report that there's no issue running the mains wiring alongside the HV lines in the umbilical I wonder if there's a 12ax7 equivalent to the e80cc I'm having a few problems getting the extension shaft to line up with the pot, is there such a thing as a flexible extension shaft?
Victor Chew Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 Nice work nopants. For neatness, I was going to run the ac together with the hv line in same umbilical cord but was worried about the interfacing problems, but now that you have reported that there are no problems, I think I will do the same.

Something like this, perhaps? http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l2632.R2.TR2.TRC1.A0.H1.Xflexible+shaft+coupler.TRS0&_nkw=flexible+shaft+coupler&_sacat=92074
JoaMat Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) Nice build indeed. Edited November 11, 2015 by JoaMat
spritzer Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 I just wouldn't dare running mains through the same umbilical as the other wires. It's just so Eddie Current and so much fail waiting to happen. Call me paranoid...

xianghao Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 Fresh RK50 arrived. Anyone has the suitable PCB board for RK50 ? 3
GeorgeP Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 Why the white gloves? Or did you have Mickey Mouse help model these for you?
sorenb Posted June 27, 2015 Report Posted June 27, 2015 wouw ...two??? @georgep: some like to wear gloves when rubbing the knob ;o)
kevin gilmore Posted June 27, 2015 Author Report Posted June 27, 2015 I could always cut the footprint out of the stax t2 board, and add a couple of connectors, but you would have to make the boards yourself.
mwl168 Posted June 28, 2015 Report Posted June 28, 2015 (edited) I wonder if there's a 12ax7 equivalent to the e80ccNo sure if I understand your question correctly. The original Telefunken made two 12AX7 equivalents, ECC83 and ECC803S. ECC803S has a different physical construction than the 12AX7 and ECC83. IIRC, it has an extra getter and looks similar to 6DJ8. They are extremely rare and pricy now. I read somewhere the ECC803S were built for early computer applications and are guranteed for section to section match. Edited June 28, 2015 by mwl168
xianghao Posted June 28, 2015 Report Posted June 28, 2015 Why the white gloves? Or did you have Mickey Mouse help model these for you? OK..... all because RK50 is esay to oxidized (Sweat).it will become green when oxidized happened.

I'm aware of the ecc equivalents I was just wondering if there were any larger, similar tubes ala 12au7 <-> e80cc
