Hello.

I'm new here on the forums, as well as to this audiophile hobby, and want to buy my very first pair of hi-fi headphones.

I live in Brazil, and the options here are very scarce. I recently had the opportunity to get the HE-400 new(latest revision, with velour pads) for a fair price, and wanted to know your opinion on them.

Has anyone here ever heard them? Do they offer a good sound/price ratio? Can you tell me more about its sound signature and qualities?

Thanks, and sorry if i've made any grammar mistake. English's not my native language and it's been a while since i used it, so it's a little rusty.

José Carlos.

Read your welcome PM Zack.

I've already read.

The problem is that i didn't find any HE-400 review from Tyll.

I tried asking on head-fi too, but that place is very confusing. Besides the polluted/unfriendly layout, there's too much (mis)information and few knowledge.

Jose,

This isn't the type of headphone forum where you're going to get the information that you're looking for.

Try www.head-fi.org.

Well, i see a lot of similar headphone threads arround here. Can't this be considered like one of them, since there isn't any dedicated to the HE-400?

After all, it's not like i don't know what to buy. I just wanted your thoughts/impressions about this particular headphone, may it be good or bad.

if someone had wanted to post their thoughts on the HE400, they probably would have.  You really seem to have missed the information conveyed in the welcome pm.

Just posting to let you know i bought these headphones.

I don't have much experience with hi-fi headphones (this is probably my first pair) but i think they're pretty good. Great lows and very sparkle treble, lots of detail.

Now you need a good balanced class A amp to run them.

See Justin about the new GSX.......

I think i'll spare a balanced Class A amp for a future upgrade. Maybe a Stax SR-009 or Senn Orpheus.

Anyway, everyone say these aren't hard to drive. I think they sound pretty good out from my humble E17+E09 stack.

Oh, I know José! He's from our Brazilian headphone group, real nice guy. How are you doing?

I've got a HE500 and really like it. I'd also second Tyll's opinion, at least regarding the 500s. The velour gives you some more grunt in the low end and tames the highs a little bit, which is good since the spike it's got in the treble completely destroys its ability to render cymbals and treble instruments properly.

Hey Jose, Justin offers free international shipping and velour pads, and will also sell you a Headamp GS-X.

Make sure you use velour pads and not the pleather ones.

No review from me because I don't think I like them.

Yes, i'm already using it. I also took the grill fabric off. It looks like it opens the soundstage a little bit.

Any particular reason why you didn't like the HE-400's?

Hey Léo, how are you doing? Great to see you here.

I'm already using the velours. I'm not an expert but it definitely improves the treble region. Thanks for the advice anyway.

is it too late to tell him that i offer free international shipping and free velour pads?  probably.

Probably a little too late.

If he offered the HE-400's for free aswell i might reconsider getting another one ;D
