Nebby Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 Anyone interested in going to that ride with Jens Voigt on the weekend? Are you going? I'm going to go, just waffling between the 30mi and the 15mi group, mostly because 2,400ft of climbing might be a bit much for me to dive right into.
grawk Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 you can do it, the bike does all the work for you
Grand Enigma Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 30mi honestly will not feel that much different if you can make it the first 15mi.
Dreadhead Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Ben, I would like to do it but Ben (my son) is currently sick and I am not registering yet.
Nebby Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) 30mi honestly will not feel that much different if you can make it the first 15mi. I really suck at climbing, to the point that it takes a while for to recover from a climb if I let my heart rate get too high. The only reason I'm hesitating is because of the climbing; 15 additional miles of flat riding or near-flat riding wouldn't be too bad for me, but the 15mi course (pdf) has 469ft of gain while the 30mi course (pdf) has 2,428ft of gain. That being said, I'm leaning towards just going for the 30mi and taking it at pace that keeps my heart rate at a reasonable level. Chris, hope Ben feels better soon. It sucks to be sick Edited October 16, 2013 by Nebby
Dreadhead Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Ben does the price change between the routes or over the next couple days? I need to see how tomorrow goes and talk to my wife.
Nebby Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Pricing and deadlines for the 30 and 15mi are the same: through the 17th = $45, between 18-19th = $60. Metric century pricing is $55/$75, respectively
CD44hi Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 It is unlikely that I can make it for the ride in Bal'more. I am playing single dad for almost two weeks until Sat. and I am beat! LOL. My oldest is sick as well.
Pars Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Anyone here interested in a Russian River jersey made by Canari in medium? It's a 3/4 zip club cut that is very generous in my opinion. Too big for me and I just realized I don't like printed jerseys at all. $55 shipped and I'll take trades for bike gear particularly tires and cassettes. Cool jersey Raffy. Probably not big enough for me though.

It sucks to be sick Damn, I would kill for a 30 mile route I can do locally with 2k+ feet gain. I have to drive 30 mins every weekend to ride 40-44 miles with around 1k climbing around here. Chris, hope Ben is feeling better.
Dreadhead Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Sorry Raffy. That's how it goes around here. I think we get in about 2500 on the local shop ride route which is about 30 miles.
Dreadhead Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 I think I can probably go but now I am having second thoughts seeing as it's 70 miles away.
Nebby Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) Yeah, that's quite a bit of a drive for you We could carpool up from my area if you want, but I'd have to use my Saris rack since my 1up rack is only a single. Mapped out the 30mi course on Strava: http://www.strava.com/routes/48276 Edited October 16, 2013 by Nebby

You can go from sea level to 3000' in less than 10 miles.
Nebby Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Had a fit done today and my stem was shortened, seat moved forward, seatpost lowered, and shims added under the cleats. I'm a lot less stretched out now
Dreadhead Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 I hope it works out for you. Was it a dynamic fit with trackers? I have had that and more recently a old fashioned one. They ended up in the same spot and both recommended 177.5 mm cranks rather than the 175 I run. I may just swing for changing the crank length on the Quarq.
Nebby Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Specialized 3d BG fit, with no sensors...so I guess that's an old fashioned fit. My 172.5 crank length seemed fine, though he did move the cleat in a bit to move my feet out slightly.
Dreadhead Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 For those who have Apple hardware:http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/10/automated-measurement-review.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+DcRainmaker+(DC+Rainmaker)Pretty cool.
Nebby Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 Going to give it a try just to see how it compares to the fit I just got I don't have enough room in my apartment so I'll probably bring it over to the lbs to test it out there.
parris Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 If anyone's been looking for Oakley glasses they've got a pretty decent selection at good prices depending on model. I just ordered a pair of FlakJackets so that I can at least recover one of my pairs that some in my family seemed to "inherit"...
Dreadhead Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Sorry Ben I've got too much going on on Saturday and I can't swing that much driving. Going to take my kids to the local farm / pumpkin patch instead. I hope that you have a great time on the ride. Planning on riding Sunday though if you want to come down here. I know that you have a long drive too so no pressure.

I looks like everything is still full price though.
CD44hi Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Re: Oakley, I got this on an email: http://oakleyvault.com/catalog?N=100812+101078&cm_mmc=direct-oct13-_-sales3-_-top-_-txt-sunglass-shop-now I am definitely out of the Baltimore thing. My youngest got the bug and she had a night that every parent would surely want to forget. Non-stop coughing, puking, the works. Luckily my wife is getting back in town late tonight.
Dreadhead Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Sorry to hear about your youngest Juan, that sounds horrible.
