Voltron Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Keep it up Brent! And Vicki, I can't lose weight for shit. I guess I am a woman. 1
guzziguy Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 The beauty shot. Chris' bike is gorgeous. Both bikes look great. However, this picture points out to me how much I aesthetically prefer a horizontal top tube. Maybe I'm old school, but I'm probably just old. Keep it up Brent! And Vicki, I can't lose weight for shit. I guess I am a woman. Stop drinking alcohol for a month while changing no other part of your diet or activity level. I bet that you'll lose weight. I also bet that I would too.
Dreadhead Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Went out for 2 hours of riding in the neighborhoods south of town. I stopped to take a picture at the top of the Wilson bridge. If you look carefully you can see the Washington monument and Congress. The weather was glorious and I was in bib shorts and short sleeve jersey in December.

I also bet that I would too. Unfortunately I agree with you Ken. If I stopped drinking beer I know that I too will drop weight without any increase in exercise frequency or the need to eat less. Of course that is easier said than done.
MexicanDragon Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Yeah, Vicki needs to quit drinking. She's a lush. **BRENT**

Raffy it's time for you me and John to stop drinking. Think of all the bike stuff we could buy with the extra cash plus the weight loss. I'm in, just say the word 1
Dreadhead Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 I hear the sound of distillers and brewmasters weeping..
raffy Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 Raffy it's time for you me and John to stop drinking. Think of all the bike stuff we could buy with the extra cash plus the weight loss. I'm in, just say the word I always think of how much better on the bike I could be if I weighted around 130 lbs (meaning I'll have to lose around 27). I'll lose all access to good beer when I go home for vacation in the Philippines for 3 weeks on the 14th so that'll be a good start for me.
tyrion Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 Now we have to wait for Jp. In the meantime, anyone want to buy a beer collection?
VPI Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 I have my official fitting Wednesday so I wanted to settle on pedals so I could be fitted with the proper pedal. I think I will get the new Specialized S works shoe and I am thinking some kind of Look pedals. What are the HC approved road pedals these days?
Dreadhead Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 (edited) Look Keo max are great pedals. The blades that I have are a bit better but not really worth it. I would recommend waiting until the fit for the pedals because you may have some float requirements but I doubt it. The Keos you just change the cleat to change the float. Speedplay pedals do have the advantage that you can use either side of the pedals so they can be quicker to clip in. Edited December 4, 2012 by Dreadhead
tyrion Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 I have Speedplay Zeros and love them. Double sided is the way to go.
VPI Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 I was looking at those Speedplays. How easy are they to get out of?
tyrion Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 I have no problem getting in and out of them. Because they are double sided getting into them after a stop is easier than single sided, imo.
VPI Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 Yeah I have been using XTRs which are double sided. I am not sure my shop sells the Speedplays so I will have to check.
aerius Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 1996 and 2006 Kona Explosifs. There's just something special about the feel of these frames, maybe it's the fancy steel tubing, maybe it's Kona's special sauce for frame geometry, probably both. They're so fun to ride.
Dreadhead Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 Jeff I would be very surprised if they didn't sell them. That said once engaged they are all about the same. The adjustable float on the zeros looks pretty cool. I tried them once but the difference was not noticeable enough for me in use to justify the switch. I may have gone the speed play route if it worked out differently but now I have 5/6 sets of keo pedals.
tyrion Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 Jeff, I have an extra pair of Zeros that Vicki gave me. I can send them to you to try but you would need to get a pair of cleats.
VPI Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 I might take you up on that Mike. If my shop does not have them I will probably get Keos and might want to compare. Thanks for the offer
Dreadhead Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 Jeff, that reminds me of the one negative on the speedplays is that the cleats cost a bit and do wear out. They also are a nightmare on hardwood floors. You can get these: http://www.keeponkovers.com/Product.html
tyrion Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 I have covers for my cleats but learned that they only work if you put them on. For me at least, the chance of the cleats needing replacement in a year is worth the advantages of the pedals but ymmv.

That's the point. I was trying to be as even handed as possible. I personally still prefer my Keos but that's probably familiarity and the fact I'm used to how they clip in and I do like that I can walk into my house with my shoes on. That said, starting from scratch and with those covers the Zeros seem to come out ahead because of the fact they have double entry.
