deepak Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 No power outage here. Wind shaking small branches off trees. Rain is a comin' down. Lean my head and give a yell. Give me a string bean I'm a hungry man.
grawk Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 we've had 2 10 minute outages since hte power came back on. I expect to lose it for 12+ hrs at some point over the next couple of days. The eye of the storm is currently tracking to spend 6 hrs near us.
Torpedo Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 That sounds damn awful. Thanks for the updates. Take care and stay safe, don't go out to pick up anything else.
HeadphoneAddict Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Two of my flights already cancelled for this week. Hoping the Friday flight is not cancelled as it is the only one I actually wanted to take. Not much going on here but I am really hoping the pond in my backyard does not overflow into my walk out basement. Tried to go to Home Depot yesterday and it was a nightmare with nothing worthwhile left in the store so I went to Dick's and bought ammo. Storm Supplies: 1,000 rounds of .45 1,000 rounds of .223 200 rounds of .357 Magnum 8 Hot Dogs (All that was freaking left) 8 D Batteries (All that was left) I am ready for the Zombies if they come. You're gonna have to eat the zombies when the hot dogs are all gone...
Dusty Chalk Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 I'm hungry. I bought a lot of "power out" provisions, but didn't get any frozen dinners or anything.8 Hot Dogs (All that was freaking left)Damn, that sucks, dude....bought ammo... Storm Supplies: 1,000 rounds of .45 1,000 rounds of .223 200 rounds of .357 MagnumWell, you could always shoot something.
n_maher Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Power just came back on after 4+ without. Like Tom and Dan I expect more of the same for the next few days.
boomana Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 This is kicking up bad memories of hurricane days down here. Stay safe, peoples.
blessingx Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 Looks like the HMS Bounty sank. Also the wind is getting white. Be careful everyone.
HeadphoneAddict Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 NYT says Con Ed just shut off power to lower Manhattan.
blessingx Posted October 29, 2012 Report Posted October 29, 2012 As mentioned in the last two posts, up to date info at: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2012/10/28/nyregion/hurricane-sandy.html
aardvark baguette Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 at my parents house. heard a monstrous cracking sound out back. my dad went out with a flashlight and said a 'huge' piece of tree is in our back yard. really glad it didnt hit the house. i will probably go check out my house tomorrow or wednesday, hoping my giant oak survived, its the favorite part of my yard.
Knuckledragger Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Supposedly this was taken on the lower east side of Manhattan. Source is George Takei's FB page, of all places.
Knuckledragger Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Also: #instacane: the story of hurricane sandy told through instagram, in case there were any doubts left about the information age driving us all insane.
Knuckledragger Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 I just had a visit from a giant electrical truck. If I'm not mistaken, my next door neighbor and the people across the street both lost power, probably due to something that happened in my yard. In spite of this my electricity stayed on. If my neighbors didn't hate me before, they sure do now.
Voltron Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Our NYC and DC offices were closed today, but I just got notice that the power is completely out in the NY office building and our battery backups are exhausted so certain servers are unavailable. This shit just got real all the way out here in SF!
emelius Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 My bro & his family are fine & watching Monday Night Football in Jersey City...He says the lights have flickered a couple times...
deepak Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Drowning out the sound of rain with this 1

This shit just got real all the way out here in SF! Sounds like single point of failure to me .... Who wrote your business continuity plan? Congrat - you get to test it! A business continuity plan is a roadmap for continuing operations under adverse conditions such as a storm or a crime. In the US, governmental entities refer to the process as continuity of operations planning (COOP). http://en.wikipedia....inuity_planning if it fails, COOP == POOP EDIT: Snarkyness aside, hope your East Coast Staff and their families are safe. The Monkey Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Power out below 39th Street, except somehow Battery Park City. It looks like from what I can tell so far that the water is sweeping through BPC (not good) to even lower areas internally. Somehow that may be advantageous to my building. We'll see. Upper East Side unaffected. Caviar is fine. 1

The redundancy department of redundancy wrote our contingency plan. It was only a few NYC drives, but I was exaggerating for effect.
shellylh Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 This is kicking up bad memories of hurricane days down here. Stay safe, peoples. This!
ironbut Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Just watched CNN footage of Manhattan. Looks crazy out there! Be safe you guys!
boomana Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Just got an email from our PA office. All our computers and phones are hooked up through PA, so if the power goes out there, we've got nothing here, confirming, as I thought when that the powers in the mothership made that happen, what a fucking stupid idea.
boomana Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 Watching the weather channel on youtube. Just saw my pics old neighborhood (14th and C; I lived on 13th and B and then on B between 9th and 10th)with the cars under water. Damn.
