skullguise Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 Just got the PS Audio Newsletter, this replaces the DL3. Looks pretty interesting..... http://www.psaudio.c...players/nuwave/
blessingx Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 (edited) x2. Why did I just buy that DLIII? Edited September 29, 2012 by blessingx 1
crappyjones123 Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 music direct is offering a new dl3 for $500. don't know how long they will have the 50% off for but is there anything available in that price range that competes sq wise? i think shelly is quite fond of it (vs the schitt and emotiva dac) but setting a hard limit at $500 is there anything else to be considered? there is a dealer demo also available for $450 which i will probably grab if i get a green light for the dl3.
shellylh Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 Never tried the DLiii but I am quite fond of the PWD.
crappyjones123 Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 (edited) Oh. Pwd is a wee bit more expensive than the dl3 Ric? Edited September 30, 2012 by crappyjones123

I'm behind on the DAC front, but new and I've heard... no. There are a couple used over at HF also. 1
crappyjones123 Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 I don't have any issues with used gear. I just mentioned new as the dac was originally $1000. They are probably offering the 50% off to make room for the new dac.
morphsci Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 I am also intrigued by this new DAC. However, I am also a pretty big fan of the Emotiva, both from an SQ and build quality perspective. Haven't heard the Schitt, so no comment there.
crappyjones123 Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 I've been trying to get the emotiva dac again but they are sold out. even of b and c stocks. they were essentially giving them away at emofest at the beginning of september.
The Monkey Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 I'm not a fan of these DAC thingies. 1
Hopstretch Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 I'm not a fan of these DAC thingies. Best today, so far! The NuWave looks pretty good on paper (screen?). Although if you're going to deploy reams of copy about how trick all yo' parts be, it would be nice to actually show the inside of the box.
Torpedo Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 I'm not a fan of these DAC thingies. Don't womanizers say so about women?
The Monkey Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 Don't womanizers say so about women? Ha! I'm not much of a fan of them either anymore. (HC members excluded of course.)
Torpedo Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 A good reason to, as with DACses thingies, start trying a few Problem is they're way more expensive
Dusty Chalk Posted September 30, 2012 Report Posted September 30, 2012 music direct is offering a new dl3 for $500. don't know how long they will have the 50% off for but is there anything available in that price range that competes sq wise?I haven't heard it (the DL3), but from what I've heard of the HRT Music Streamer II+, that's what I'm getting. One of my probable solutions to my portable speaker problem is the Pro (which does balanced) and a pair of small studio monitors (which oftentimes only have balanced inputs).
crappyjones123 Posted October 6, 2012 Report Posted October 6, 2012 (edited) extremely pleased with the dl3. just got it in the mail today and set it up a few minutes ago. it is LOOOOONG. need to reconsider the placement in my room. it looked waaay smaller in the pictures. it is nice to have a (non laptop sound card) source again. blessingx Posted October 6, 2012 Report Posted October 6, 2012 Long it is. Proportions would work work well with some of the Stax amps. Wish I had it and the 007t II at the same time.
Mr.Sneis Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 (edited) I don't like how much fluff these guys put in their item descriptions. Those pictures sure are misleading. Half the width of the PWD, same length, and shorter. The PWD is already a tank (especially when you consider the innards) so even at half the size it's going to be a little smaller tank. PS Audio seems to be implementing a bunch of changes in their distribution strategy as well cutting out a bunch of middle men. Looks like they are also offering trade in of any old working/non-working dac and get $300 off. Wonder if an old cd-player counts? Technically has a dac. Edited November 5, 2012 by Mr.Sneis
Mr.Sneis Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 Well a sucker am I. I ordered last night and even found a super cheap DAC to trade in. I figure even if I don't like it their return policy sounds very generous. Hope it actually ships soon; back when I ordered the mkII kit for the PWD it took two months longer than I expected.
blessingx Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 Which color did you order? Last I heard they had a couple silvers (likely gone by last night) and people were started to get on a list for black models. And yes, I'm tempted (as I am also in waiting for Zdac).
Mr.Sneis Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 (edited) I went for black. I don't have a preference on color atm but the Silver did not say "in stock" when I ordered. I'm going to try to call them to get more details. Maybe it's just me but I actually liked the look of the older DLIII better. Edited November 6, 2012 by Mr.Sneis
Mr.Sneis Posted November 6, 2012 Report Posted November 6, 2012 Got off the phone with them. It looks like the numbers "in stock" on the website don't even make any real sense but rather an estimation of what they will get in stock. Person I spoke with said they are basically sold out and if you order you're really on backorder until they come in stock (don't think they have started shipping yet). ETA could be as early as a week or towards the end of November. If you are doing a trade-in then you are supposed to send in your DAC first before they ship. Alternatively you can pay full price then have the $300 credited later. I have yet to receive any details about sending in my trade-in item but asked her to send the info over if she could asap.
