grawk Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 http://news.slashdot.org/story/12/07/12/2215231/diggcom-sold-to-betaworks-for-500000 "The once popular social news website Digg.com which received $45 million in funding, is being sold to to Betaworks for $500,000. From the article: 'Betaworks is acquiring the Digg brand, website, and technology, but not its employees. Digg will be folded into News.me, Betaworks' social news aggregator. This is not the outcome people expected for Digg. In 2008, Google was reportedly set to buy it for $200 million."
mikeymad Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 note to self - sell out to google if they offer
deepak Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 note to self - sell out to google if they offer "In 2008, Google was reportedly set to buy it for $200 million" Was it Google that pulled out of the deal? I would imagine they knew something we didn't
grawk Posted July 13, 2012 Author Report Posted July 13, 2012 I think the digg guys thought it would be worth more
mikeymad Posted July 13, 2012 Report Posted July 13, 2012 now all they are really buying is the user info for marketing, etc...
screaming oranges Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 So if we all here had pooled our resources we could have owned Stax and Digg today... hmmm....
recstar24 Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 We could have bought digg, and spammed the hell out of users to join head case.
crappyjones123 Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 Everyone would have only bitched about new users though Ryan.
