jp11801 Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 Ok it's a bit of a long-shot but it looks like Mike and I are planning to hit the NYC century ride Sept 9th. I'm not doing the 100 mile ride but there are options for all levels 15-100 miles. I'll likely choose the 55 or 75 mile option, 6000 cyclists ride the event and this year there is a bike an bites feature that have many NYC restaurants participating. This is not a race per say but should be a lot of fun and burn enough calories to enjoy a few great beers and great meals. We could throw in a mini meet and maybe try and finagle a trip to OMA audio! Here is the link to the NYC century ride site for any that are interested. Best part is you have 90 days to get into decent shape for either the 35, 55 or 75 mile option. http://nyccentury.org/
Dreadhead Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 (edited) I am interested (surprise surprise). If Amtrak was a little more bike friendly I'd be even more interested.... Edit: Seeing if my wife is interested in coming for a family weekend. I guess we could drive or Amtrak does appear to have checked bag options. Edited June 11, 2012 by Dreadhead
n_maher Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 Bummer, this is the weekend that I'm riding the 2-day century in Northern NH otherwise I'd be interested.
jp11801 Posted June 11, 2012 Author Report Posted June 11, 2012 Mike your in alright, beer, bikes, NYC, great food, great friends, music...
The Monkey Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 Well, I think I can be counted on for moral support, at least.
tyrion Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 Get a bike Dinny. I just was told that my car is being repaired under warranty so I am in.
raffy Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 Not sure if I have the vacation time, funds and conditioning to make this event but I am interested. Just curious, how are you gonna get your bikes to NYC or are you renting race bikes on site?
tyrion Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 There is a place Jp found that rents decent bikes but I will probably ship mine.
jp11801 Posted June 11, 2012 Author Report Posted June 11, 2012 On the link I posted for the ride there is a company that rents road bikes $90 a day for a Trek 1.5, not the best but better than a hybrid
cetoole Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 Having ridden a total of 5 miles in the past decade, I will toss my hat in the bucket and say IN. 1
Dreadhead Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 I'm out. We're hosting some of Meaghan's friends down at the lake house and riding a century out that way that weekend.
boomana Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 I'm out. I'm taking a vacation in MI with the family in August for a week, and am taking two days off in November for the Smart Ride, so my vacation time is wiped out.
jp11801 Posted June 19, 2012 Author Report Posted June 19, 2012 So far Mike, Colin, Dinny (you've got 80 days to train), hopefully Jeff and maybe Raffy?? I'm in for the 55 mile ride but all routes are together for the first 15 miles.
tyrion Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 I intend to try, but I have a long way to go. Awesome Jeff! So far Mike, Colin, Dinny (you've got 80 days to train), hopefully Jeff and maybe Raffy?? I'm in for the 55 mile ride but all routes are together for the first 15 miles. I thought we were doing 75 miles?
luvdunhill Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 This is on the tail end of my time up here. If something changes, I'd be in. But as it stands now, I'll be heading back to Texas this week.
raffy Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 I'm in as long as I can scrounge up the funds as well as the vacation time. 55 sounds about what I'm comfortable doing right now. JP, I had a challenging time keeping up with you this past Sunday and I could see that you were even holding out and waiting for me at times already. Obviously, I still have quite a ways to go training wise. If I go, still on the fence on renting a road bike or bringing mine. They have Trek Madone 1.5 rentalsw which I think aren't too bad but bringing my own bike is definitely more ideal. Any idea on the easiest/most economical way to ship bikes? I read somewhere Amtrak Express is a good way to ship bikes.
Dreadhead Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 Never used them but: http://www.shipbikes.com/ http://www.bikeflights.com/
jp11801 Posted June 20, 2012 Author Report Posted June 20, 2012 I thought we were doing 75 miles? Ok... 75 for bravado but 55 cuts through the heart of Brooklyn with better food and a road beer option. Beer and biking do mix just YouTube cyclocross
morphsci Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 I would love to do this but not sure it can be worked out. I will look into it.
jp11801 Posted June 23, 2012 Author Report Posted June 23, 2012 So if Sunday is the big ride, I'm thinking Saturday is walking beer tour day.
Voltron Posted June 23, 2012 Report Posted June 23, 2012 Carbo loading. That's how they prepare for the Tour de France.
mikeymad Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 Carbo loading. That's how they prepare for the Tour de France. that is how I prep for a weekend bender...
