spritzer Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 Think RWA with silver transformers and the snake oil piled on thick.
luvdunhill Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 I like Audio Consulting stuff in general. They do know how to make transformers.
Voltron Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 Mobile and 30 watts per channel ?? Same output as Red Wine Audio when charged.
complin Posted May 15, 2012 Author Report Posted May 15, 2012 Mobile and 30 watts per channel ?? Yes has but only for 10 minutes It's not clear from the description how the phones are driven. I presume its some sort of combined power amp and transformer based energiser? Like a RWA with an integrated SRD-7!
spritzer Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 It's a speaker amp driving stepup transformers. Since they have no detail at all about the amp then it's probably one of those things which can't see the light of day. The awesomeness and magic would disappear once people know what a POS it really is...
complin Posted May 15, 2012 Author Report Posted May 15, 2012 (edited) At $20,000 (18,500 Swiss Franc) it ought to be bloody fantastic! Edited May 16, 2012 by complin
nikongod Posted May 15, 2012 Report Posted May 15, 2012 Am I alone in being consistently underwhelmed by efforts to run STAX transformers off of speaker amps? I really like transformers when they work right, but yea, no. It seems like the current push for STAX transformers is an effort to re-make what started as the cheapest thing possible as expensively as possible... I think of them like a $50 big mac or a $50 loaf of wonderbread or a $250K VW bettle. NTTAWWAoTT (not that theres anything wrong with any of those things), but its a big-mac not a gourmet burger. Its a loaf of wonderbread - its not like Spritzer baked it. And its a VW bettle, not a bently. Maybe its just me.

I like Stax transformers for cheapo rigs like for my normal bias Lambdas, I am 100% with you.
mrarroyo Posted May 16, 2012 Report Posted May 16, 2012 or a $250K VW bettle. That is not nice! I will have to send "Pollito" over to set you straight.
kevin gilmore Posted May 16, 2012 Report Posted May 16, 2012 But But... A Bentely is a volkswagon. So is the Lambo. and the Bugatti.
spritzer Posted May 16, 2012 Report Posted May 16, 2012 I've done my darnedest to give Stax transformers a fair shot but in the end they are not for me. They do offer bang for the buck though...
kevin gilmore Posted May 16, 2012 Report Posted May 16, 2012 If some company would just make transformers as good as the ones in the quads, things would be much better.
nikongod Posted May 16, 2012 Report Posted May 16, 2012 That is not nice! I will have to send "Pollito" over to set you straight. Only if I get to drive. I have always wanted a VW bug
Salt Peanuts Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 I have always wanted a VW bug This. One of these days, though I suspect by the time I'm ready for one, there won't be any left.
spritzer Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 The bug will live on forever. A family friend just restored his and there were replacement parts available for pretty much everything.
skullguise Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 I fondly remember the semi-automatic beetle my dad gave my brother. When I was 15, he used to drive that to the place we both worked. Clutchless shifting FTW!
complin Posted May 17, 2012 Author Report Posted May 17, 2012 Still make em in South America I think, $30,000 in the UK if you want a new one 1
wink Posted May 18, 2012 Report Posted May 18, 2012 $30,000 for horizontally opposed mass suicide......
mrarroyo Posted May 18, 2012 Report Posted May 18, 2012 VW buses (baywindow style was made in Brazil till circa 2004 and Beetles in Mexico till circa 2003). If you want to see some nice VW's for sale check out www.oldbug.com or TheSamba.com Personally after restoring the beetle I posted above I would buy one already restored to save a lot of time, aggravation, and money. I would buy a car from the south west USA since it is very unlikely it has any rust issues which is the death of most cars. By the way Ari of course you could drive the awesome Pollito! Did I mention the car has been driven over 400,000 miles! Stock transmission but on the 2nd engine.

We have some jurassic cars around. Only last year GM stopped making the 1995 Blazer, and it's not like it was cheap either, the TOTL version used to cost 65K USD, believe it or not. I like Beetles, but if I were in a position to buy a car like that, I'd go for one of these in a heartbeat: It's a Porsche Spyder replica - a pretty good one -, it's just cheap fun. mrarroyo Posted May 21, 2012 Report Posted May 21, 2012 Leonardo you are correct that it is still in production, albeit with a water cooled engine. I meant production was stopped with an air cooled engine. The bay window model is shown in the link below. Cheer.s http://www.limbobus.org/brazilian_kombi.htm
