Ken Burns' "Jazz" TV miniseries is on Netflix in its entirety. It has its flaws, especially in its rushed and misguided portrayal of jazz after 1960, but if you can get over the obvious Crouch/Marsalis school bias there's a lot of interesting biographical information, beautiful music, and good photography on display. Good way to teach newbies about early jazz history and bring them closer to an understanding of why exactly the greats are revered..

On that note, here's a video of Mtume ripping Crouch a new asshole over his brand of revisionism.

 

 

It's amazing how the traditionalist camp manages to find logic in calling Miles a sellout for going electric while complaining about fusion/free music for not being danceable/capable of finding a widespread audience.
