Spychedelic Whale Posted June 1, 2012 Author Report Posted June 1, 2012 I just don't get at all what is the hype about. A $100 DAC in parts should sound like a $300+ DAC, that’s about how much commercial equivalent DAC would cost. If you invested $100 in parts and it sound like $100 then you been ripped off badly Its sold fully assembled.
morphsci Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 Its sold fully assembled by tiny little douchebags using pixie dust. FTFY
spritzer Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 So it's sold for 100$ without a chassis or any ancillaries and it competes with 300$ dacs? I'd call that a pretty terrible deal when one thinks about how much that 300$ actually costs to produce....
Spychedelic Whale Posted June 1, 2012 Author Report Posted June 1, 2012 with chassis is more 49$ but it seems those with the Oamp can stick it inside or something.
Mellifluous Crunk Posted February 23, 2013 Report Posted February 23, 2013 So aside from the creator being a shithead does anyone have any impressions of this rig? I'm throwing most of my source budget at a new turntable but my shite AlienDAC died a few months ago and I'm looking for another pre-built DIY USB type thing that won't encroach too heavily on the beer/bourbon budget.
grawk Posted February 23, 2013 Report Posted February 23, 2013 Perhaps you meant to ask that question somewhere else?
Mellifluous Crunk Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 I apologize for the somewhat vapid question but I'm just not very familiar with the current DAC market. Looks like it's been flooded with mid-fi faddy bullshit backed by adcopy regurgitating fanboys since I last tweaked my system and I'm not sure where to start in purchasing units for comparison. I wish I had the money to purchase something really nice but as it stands I'm too broke to invest real money in the laptop setup. Probably just going for a used Pico standalone DAC to avoid all of that nonsense, didn't realize the price went down.
Dusty Chalk Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 You certainly can't go wrong with the HeadAmp. I think there's even a used one hanging around here somewhere. No, sorry, that's the You should still buy it.
Mellifluous Crunk Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 Tempting, but I'm strictly going for a standalone DAC. As far as amps go I'm pretty happy with my Millet MiniMAX right now and think my next upgrade is going to be some sort of SET. Thanks for the heads up regardless.
Pars Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 http://www.diyhifi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2260 This might be of interest as far as the ODAC goes. I'm sure it is alright... just alright. Please compare "That" DAC: to one designed by a competent designer: Ciao T

I like the HeadAmp DAC and the Audioquest DragonFly.
Dusty Chalk Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 I would add an HRT MusicStreamer II+ to that shortlist. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm a huge HRT fanboi. I own the HeadStreamer and the MusicStreamer Pro.
Cankin Posted February 24, 2013 Report Posted February 24, 2013 I like my HeadStreamer, looking to get an Apogee One.
HeadphoneAddict Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 I like my HeadStreamer, looking to get an Apogee One. Didn't Vicky complain that the Apogee One had a bit of hiss?
