ojnihs
So I just got my Etymotic ER-4P's and they're sweet, but I want to use the foam tips and I can't figure out how to put them on. Do I just shove the tube into the clear tubing or do i take the clear tubing out? WTF!!
ojnihs
you stretch the clear tube over the etymotic barrel. Thanks Reks. Does it matter if the shiny side or the dull side is facing in or out?
ojnihs
Well I tried the foamies, and I don't think the size that comes with the phones are small enough for my ear canals, so I went back to the tri-flange, which work surprisingly well. What's shocking is that the volume seems so much lower than I expected, I have to turn up my iPod to like 1/4 of the way to get to a reasonable listening volume. Is that weird? ojnihs
no, it's just how they are. Well then...they fucking rule. That's all I got to say about that. Damn their good.
n_maher
Ety fan boys unite! They're the only thing that got me through mowing my lawn this summer (a 6 hr. chore). For the record, the fan girls are welcome too, just not sure we've got any around at this point.
aerius
Ety fan boys unite! They're the only thing that got me through mowing my lawn this summer (a 6 hr. chore). 6 hours? Do you live on a sod farm or something?
grawk
He uses a sling blade. Some people call it a kaiser blade, mm hmmm.
Dusty Chalk
6 hours? Do you live on a sod farm or something? Or maybe in a yard with a lot of trees. And I mean, a lot of trees.
n_maher
This is the back yard. I have a little over 2.5 acres, all of which is grass. When I mow all of it (yes, I use a riding mower) it can take up to 6 hrs. Even w/ the Etys it's pure and utter misery.
Dusty Chalk
Unholy carp, dude! So the answer is yes, you do live on a sod farm. Effectively -- even if you don't sell the sod...

You need to get one of those commercial John Deere tractors with the mower attachment which cuts a 20' wide swath in one go.
n_maher
Well, for now this is what I've got. It only cuts 4' at a time but it also snow-blows the driveway. Or more correctly, it'd blow snow if we had any...
ojnihs
I feel your pain Nate, when I was living back home before college, it took me a good 3 hours to mow the lawn, and I didn't have ety's back then...

ojnihs
Alright, foam tips >>>>>>>>>>>>>> triflange. I fucking hate the triflange now. Always felt like it was poking my brain with those pieces of shit.
n_maher
Reks, That's funny, I greatly prefer the comfort, isolation and sound of the foamies. I don't think I've used triflanges in well over a year now. Potato/potahto.
ojnihs
try to get used to the triflanges. i really do think they are the best tips for the etys. I feel that the problem with the triflange, especially with the new heavier and thicker cable that etymotic uses, is that it doesn't support the weight of the headphone as well as the foam tips do. So not only is there the constant feeling of "poking" going on in your ear canal, there is also this downward force that is really irritating (which now contributes to another poking sensation in the roof of your ear canal). The foamies seem to solve this problem by supporting the added weight of the cable.
ojnihs
are you using the clip? yah, but I think I may not be positioning it right since the cord noise is greatly reduced but the weight still is an issue (with the triflanges).
