Absorbine_Sr Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 i gotta say, 31 didn't seem like near the milestone that 30 did. Yeah, you've had a year to get used to being an old bastard. Imagine when you are ancient like me.
roadtonowhere08 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 I have always loved your avatar! Happy birthday. Hope it was a good one.
roadtonowhere08 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) The whole build-up from Halloween to Christmas can be overwhelming sometimes. Afterwards, some people miss the anticipation. Myself, I get driven insane by my kids' constant obsession with pumpkins, skeletons, and pirates for Halloween as well as the Christmas lights, presents, and decorations for Christmas. It is great that they get so excited, but it gets old, because they are the obsessive types (like their parents ) I love the season, but in the end, I am glad to see it go every year. roadtonowhere08 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Most of it should be for just children. I mainly like it for some time off and to be able to spend more time with my family. I loathe the commercialization of the holidays for reasons I am pretty sure you share as well. Oddly enough, I hate Halloween. I know, that's probably worthy, but I never saw the point of it.
morphsci Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Actually the only holiday I really hate is New Years. A time for the amateur drinkers to go out and act stupid.
grawk Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 st pattys is worse tho. At least people plan ahead typically for nye.
morphsci Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Chicago has a wee St. Patty's day celebration also, but it wasn't so big in the neighborhood in which I grew up.
jvlgato Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 I thought St Patty's was about corned beef and cabbage?
Augsburger Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 i gotta say, 31 didn't seem like near the milestone that 30 did. Your 31?!!! Shoot I have ports older than you you young whippersnapper.
guzziguy Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Actually the only holiday I really hate is New Years. A time for the amateur drinkers to go out and act stupid. Jim, what makes you think that they are acting?
manaox2 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Actually the only holiday I really hate is New Years. A time for the amateur drinkers to go out and act stupid. This.
dsavitsk Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Actually the only holiday I really hate is New Years. A time for the amateur drinkers to go out and act stupid. NYE and Halloween are my least favorites for the above reason, and for the enforced fun aspect ... ... and from the year that a kid, after eating too much candy, vomited all over our front porch. Then his mother, after getting some candy from us, showed us the vomit but didn't stick around to help clean it up.
dsavitsk Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 who suffers from irrational depression after Christmas is over. Post Christmas Letdown (PCD). Happy Birthday!
Wmcmanus Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 Happy birthday... don't be depressed, and don't hate on Christmas... just be happy! It's all good.
dsavitsk Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) damn, i had no idea that post-christmas letdown was a thing. It's a thing in as much as things my brother invented* are things -- he is a psychology professor if that gives him any authority (it probably shouldn't) *Looking around, I don't think the term is unique to him.
