That's no fun. I had a ruptured eardrum due to an infection last year, and my symptoms were similar (less blood, more pus in my case). It took a couple months to get hearing back to normal, and in the meantime I was quite grouchy. I hope your recovery is speedy and full.

And glad you got to try the Scotch......very happy to share with those who will appreciate it more than I could.

BTW, Mikey looks a lot "cleaner" now than in that Classmates picture laugh.png

Nice... thanks again

sadly this does sound like a ruptured eardrum. People have managed this with as simple a thing as sticking their fingers in their ears and pulling out while in the shower. You need to see an ENT not an audiologist ..dB

Thanks guys. what are my options for diagnosis and treatment? Does emergency and urgent care make sense at all? I'm cheap when it comes to medical expenses have very good blur shield hmo

I think it will depend on what your insurance allows you to do- ie if you can see an ENT surgeon without a PCP referral or not. Sounds like a ruptured eardrum to me as well

Bummer Dan,

I'd suggest getting hold of the audiologist asap. If you don't have a direct contact # shoot CeeTee a PM and get it from him.

I can't imagine that what you're experiencing is the first time this sort of thing has happened and they may have an office where you can go for a thorough exam or will direct you to somewhere that you can get one done.

You do want to get treatment as soon as you can to avoid infection.

While there are certainly bad practitioners in every aspect of the health care system, my personal experience (as a registered nurse) is that the vast majority are remarkably caring folks who take their resposibilties very seriously. Many have gotten a bad rap these days because of the pressures imposed on them by the institutions they work for.

Be that as it may, I think everyone would agree that asking the audiologist for the course of treatment is far better than asking a bunch of headphone geeks.

I agree, but we are not talking about the vast majority here. The audiologist we are talking about ignored Dan's complaint when it originally happened. All he had to do was take a quick look with his otoscope and he would have noticed a perforated eardrum. If he didn't have an otoscope, he had no business doing impressions where the first step is to verify that the ear canal and ear drum are clean.

Actually, he was asking the MDs on the list, which I think is a much better idea than asking the audiologist who has already been negligent. Of course it's up to Dan.

I made late to this thread, but read his PM. For the lack of severe pain which usually associates to an eardrum perforation, I'd say it's just a wound on the earcanal skin. In any case that ear needs to be inspected, and meanwhile, avoiding water getting into it to prevent infections.

I can't discuss the treatment of Dan while impressions were made since I wasn't present when it occured.

I think the point here is to answer his question as to where he should go to get the problem assessed.

I still think that contacting the audiologist is your best choice. Unless you know a local specialist to get an exam done, finding out what the audiologist suggests will be the most expedient since she has a stake in this. Like I said before, I can't imagine that this is the first time this sort of problem has occured so she probably has someone that can examine you quickly and will know the kind of problems that can occur as a result of the impressions process.

Also, going through her will increase the likelyhood that there won't be any cost to you.

So, give her a chance to make things right. If you aren't happy with what she says, let her know and contact your HMO.

Good deal Dan!

Just wanta say that it was super cool to share a table with Frank and Mikey!

And it's always great to see Al, Graham, Steve (ASR), Peter and other HC faithful.

Thanks for the tastes of some fine whiskey. I know Christen (CeeTee) thought that was a great idea too.

MikeyMad, we shared our Bourbon laced candies with you but I didn't get a sip of your secret stash. At least Al was a gentleman and shared. Good stuff Al. LOL

Went into the doctor's today! Results were good. No rupture in the ear drum. Clearly a cut in the ear canal with an unstable blood. No IEMs for a week she said (Probably playing it safe, but I can live with this.... probably. We'll see when I do cardio tomorrow ;p). Thanks again for all the info/advice guys. Never been a big contributor in community-sense in this scene, so the outpouring is extra unexpected and appreciated.
