Me too on both counts. Maybe it's because we remember the days when competition against teams like Russia was a substitute for war. If we can't nuke 'em, at least beat 'em in the Olympics.

Miracle is a movie that still gives me chills for that very reason. But it also makes me sad about all the pros in the olympics today...

Yeah I think the olympics lost most of their "innocence" and intrigue when they started allowing professional atheletes to participate.

LOL . At least the good old US finished 2nd in the metal count. Pretty good for the winter olympics which we traditionally suck at.

In '98 we had the big pot smoking deal with one of the Canadian snowboarders, 2002 had the figure skating fiasco, and you're right, I don't seem to remember anything big this year. I think a few athletes got nailed for performance enhancing drugs and that was it.
