My balanced B22 have gain of 8 in SE configuration so 16 in balanced. I do not think its overkill for headphones since at normal level I still use about 12-13 clicks on 23 clicks of Goldpoint step. With K1000 could be up to 17 clicks. But with some sensitive headphones I have had audible hiss. K1000 do not hiss. CD3000 and Edt.9 have hiss. D5000 do not. The easy fixable though just by adding 75ohm to each channel. Anyway it would be nice to check different gain configurations.

Thank you guys! So, you just punched the pin in? The tool doesn't look long enough to puch the pin out from other side.
-
Thanks, I try to find tool for now.
-
Rodrigo, Did you drill out the pin? Or is there other way to do it? I broke off one pin trying to pull it out.

STAX SR-007 Headphones+ SRM-007t Vacuum Tube Unit - eBay (item 320368400685 end time Jun-04-09 20:29:18 PDT) Looks like he is going for the second round?

I used B22 + SRD-7mkII combo with ESP950. They sound better in every way than with stock Koss amp. You know that anything sound better than Koss amp. I never tried this combo with O2 or other headphone.

Got mine TKD 100K pot few days ago from Parts Connexion ($61.95). It's very smooth and dead silent in my tube amp.

Good to hear Steve. Looking forward to it.

If you get them before April 5th you are welcome to come to Arlington meet. . Ok, Seriously would you be able to come?

X2 Onboard heat sinks can touch the case (or top panel) if you mount MOSFETs on isolating pads as you would do with offboard heat sinks. In this case should be no problem. Since onboard heat sink electrically do not connected to anything then you can mount transistor without using isolating TO-220 mounting kit. MOSFET mounting tab internally connected to the base pin, so when you short it you may and probably will fry the transistor. Never happened to me though. Since I didn

No No You do not want the heat sinks touch the case.

Yes, I forgot. I don't have SACDs so I do not worry much about them. I was thinking about Redbook cds.
-
The Azur can't play SACDs, but I have SACD player that I can use through Azur digital input. I am more curious on DACs analog outputs. The price between two players very small.

Lots of people used S22 with onboard heat sinks in their B22 (balanced configuration) and l do not remember reading problems with overheating. If we use the tallest 2.5" inch heat sinks and not 1.5" ones with one S22 per stereo channel we could be fine. I built my B22 with off board heat sinks, so I could be wrong. I think naamanf and n_maher have more experience in this regard.

Kevin, have you heard Azur 840c? I guess so, could please elaborate on how much the scd -xa5400es better? Thanks

Double post, sorry.

One pair of balancing trafos for Dreadhead team also.
-
I am getting one custom shielded trafo very soon from sumR. This is my first trafo from them. SumR look good to me. But they probably not as ''big'' as Plitron. So we will see. We definitely should check what the price will be for the same trafo from Plitron. In the end we will check all the transformers anyway, so if there a problem with some of them, regardless from whom we order, we just ship them back.

If you have no problems with funds I would (if I were you) ordered boards, parts, case etc. Assuming that you willing to wait longer, I think you won't be left alone sitting on your couch and stare at the pile of parts. When everybody finishes their amps somebody sure will help you to put the amp together. It's not like we are going to build a hundred of DynoFets? They can be counted on two hands? my 2c.
-
I wish I could do it. But thanks for the offer anyway.
-
Well, we can populate all the boards we need for everybody and distribute them, but to finish the amp is a lot more than that. So a lot will depend on the builder since he will be buying the parts that won't require group buys. So I thought is not a bad idea if we could do it right. Or we could keep very simple and run group buy for each part separately. Boards, trafos, semiconductors, cases etc.
-
Since builder according to the earlier posts will be partially covered by the other side, another idea is to break this project in to camps: (person who asked to build his amp + builder). Then each camp can work out the details about in what configuration they want their amps and they provide info what and how many boards and parts they need for the build, thus how much money each camp expect to invest. And who just want boards and other parts and will do their amps without help, the person will remain in his own camp and invest accordingly. Just a though.
-
No it's not overkill. Let's then do it for everybody!
-
Thanks . Just want to be useful.

Its look like that everybody want to do/have something differently and some already have case, pot, jacks etc and do not need anything. I would suggest making a list of main custom things and letting everybody tell what they want/need or how they see it. Thus we can understand which and how many custom things we need in the future.
