  1. La la la... Wait, you wanted value and improvement? I thought you meant neither value nor improvement. My bad.
  2. Heavens, you're so right. I misread the bevel. The difference is pretty clear now that I look at it.
  3. P.S. No pads on the RS-1 and 414 pads on the PS-1? You, sir, are unconventional.
  4. I'm tempted to say we should have it at Larry's, since we could also use the time to listen to every other headphone ever made.
  5. No opposition from me here. They also make the best t-shirts of any webcomic I know of. I just feel that the majesty of the Great Outdoor Fight is not to be outdone.
  6. No harm in a little cheese now and again. They're doing their day job pretty well.
  7. Dino comics funnier than Achewood? Nevar.
  8. Ingwe, I'm loving the custom title. Also, your avatar makes me think of Ayn Rand every single time I see it. I cannot explain why.
  9. Shucks, awful kind of ya'.
  10. Oh, The Economist, how I adore you. Can you imagine any other current events publication producing such a thoughtful piece on analog vs. digital/SS? Least of all an article that only endorses a product that's been out of production for 30 years? Great magazine. I'm keeping my subscription.
  11. Hey, Naamanf, any chance I could hear these once they're back on the front range? I know your list is set, but I've made offers on both of these pieces on HF's FS board, and I'd love to give them a listen before I commit money.
  12. Do you worry about noise introduced through the video components in the Classe? That touch screen would wear on the back of my mind every time I used it. That being said, I'll bet it sounds fantastic, if it sounds anything like other classe gear I've heard. Give it a spin on the SRM-T1
  13. Those barrels make a nice-looking Y-split. I'd kinda like to know who built it as well.
  14. Reks, it seems we watch all the same shows, except I've never seen true blood. It's downloading now.
  15. There is no Stax inquisition...
  16. Yeah seriously. There's a mailing list I want to be on.
  17. Bingo. I definitely noticed a change -- no doubt -- but I attribute the change to better damping and different shape. I think with equally dampened materials of equal size and shape the only advantage wood has is looks. Good cups made of inert materials like carbon fibre or even plastic should sound as good or better.
  18. I guess we know which side of the Rega / Technics debate he falls on... neither.
  19. I'm sure I could hunt someone down. I wouldn't call what I do with a soldering iron "handy", but I've some acquaintances whose degrees relied on their soldering skills, to some small measure. Surely one of them can be bought off with alcohol. Anywhere I should look for mods, or is it really so simple as replacing the DC coupling caps on the input and output? You also mention that they're in the gain stage -- does that mean that if the unit is in passive mode those caps are bypassed? I intend to use it in passive if I at all can.
  20. Well that's ironic... I just bought the GFP-750 and found this thread. It appears I am yet again on the wrong end of this thing.
  21. Just bought my first Stereophile Class "A" component (that was not a headphone)... Adcom GFP-750 preamp designed by Nelson Pass:
  22. I'm in a similar boat here, though naturally I want everything. The BAT was the only truly balanced preamp I've found, but the Parasound Halo P3 and the Classe DR-5 often come up for as low as $500 -- both are balanced.
  23. Some of you fine folks may be charitable givers. I've no doubt you have organizations you enjoy working with if you are, but here's another for you to consider. Kiva is a microfinance loan organization registered as a charity in the US. Basically, you choose a loan beneficiary by geographical region or business sector, and loan money to them. Most loans have a repayment period of 12 months, and better than 95% of the loans are repaid on time. They are zero-interest loans overseen by volunteers on site. Those volunteers choose the recipients and assist them in administering funds. Personally, I;m a big fan of microfinance, and of this organization. 100% of your donation funds go directly to the applicant, so the organization itself is funded seperately by other donations (usually a 10% request on top of your donation). Also, should you choose to, once the loans are repaid the money is yours again. I like to roll it back in, but should you be in need of it it's there. Just a shout out for a good organization that I was not aware of until recently.
  24. Same same goes for the greenline oboes. Both are spectacular instruments.
  25. Ah, Ovations are crap. The still have a wood top, though, don't they?
