  1. I passed the foreign service oral exam and, having passed, allowed myself the guilty pleasure of head-case reading and posting again after a bit of a hiatus. Hello friends!
  2. Amen to Dan's suggestion. You make the list, I'll see that it gets to the sandbox.
  3. Friends, I need some inspiration. My wonderful camera has just sat in its case for weeks on end now, as I'm having a hard time hauling myself away from work and life to enjoy something beautiful. What do you guys do when you're in a creative rut, aside from psychotropic chemicals?
  4. Woohoo Saints!
  5. How many entendres is that, do ya think?

I did enjoy the tenor of the discussions in comments on that article, as well. My wife dictated this little anecdote to me the other evening while reading "Cod". An Icelandic chef, when asked why Icelanders ate Haddock while the UK ate Cod, replied: "We don't eat money." I really must visit.

You are a singularly charming bunch of marauding sociopaths, indeed.
  8. A) Fuck him. His name is mud to me now. How did he not see this coming? I despise Paypal as much as anyone else, but they do provide a service that they should be paid for. I understand the ebay "mandated paypal" argument, to a degree, but when you're using it for private transactions where it's not mandated, you should either give them their cut or realize you're taking the risk. I occasionally ask for gifts on sales where my perceived margin is very small, but I've never thought of it as anything but gaming the system. To be upset that they froze your funds when you cheated them... seems short-sighted.
  9. What am I looking at here? 4 cans of chew with a glass spitoon? Is there a reason the handle seems to be made of a claw hammer? I am so confused.
  10. Looks like one of them finally pinned you down, eh Wayne?
  11. Muddy Water Blue is a phenomenal color, btw. I'd take pictures, but they're always encased in my head.
  12. x70jillion. Steve is an asset to all of us, especially here in the frosty Rockies.

Thinking about it... thinking about it. It'd leave me with one odd spare, and these things are sensitive to matching, but they are also speakers to be buried with, so I think I just might.

    That is totally Charlize Theron.
  15. Love that Crumpler 6 million bag. It's one of those pieces that ended the further search for upgrades, for me. I use mine with a D90, an SB-600, an 18-200, and an 11-16 Tokina, along with some odds and ends. Never looks ridiculous and camerabaggy, which is important to me.

So wait... this actually worked out well for the OP? Damn. Way to encourage him, Aerius...
  17. It's not really "loading it down". I doubt an external drive and an interface both running full tilt would max out firewire's transmission capabilities.
  18. I really prefer reading on an eInk screen, honestly. I use my iPhone for reading as well, but I vastly prefer the nook (of which I am a contented new owner) and the Sony PRS-500 I had before that. I am willing to suffer through a specific device for that comfort, though I agree with Nate that many folks might not feel it's worth it to them. That said, anything that popularizes the digital book format is a net plus for eInk devices, in some ways. I'd own one if they cost twice as much, and at that price point I imagine there will always be someone selling them.
  19. I've had bad results on certain gear, but on every really pro piece of equipment I've had (no disrespect to the Duet) it has worked smoothly in at least one direction. Sometimes the HD needs to be before the interface, sometimes after.
  20. Does the ULN-8 not chain firewire? Edit: just looked, and it does. No worries there. Plug the harddrive into the ULN-8, or vice versa.
  21. Translation: "I want to know all your opinions. I want to understand this new market thoroughly. I want to revolutionize some portion of this industry. Please tell me this stuff outright so I don't have to actually read any threads."
  22. I'd like to take this moment to express how glad I am that we have Wayne around.
  23. I'd just wire them into the same case. Heck, it even looks like they have Joshua Trees in stock... hmm....

I presume they were undercooked. It would stand to reason that the goose tastes better when you toast all of it, rather than just the head.

He's throwing up bay leaves. He ate too much beef stew too quickly. Bears always do that.
