Congrats, Ric!

Well, that makes sense. Hopefully I'll not experience same. My last airport express worked without issue, thankfully, but then I got stupid and sold it.

Airtunes is cheaper than a wadia dock, and I can't imagine a way in which it's not better. Purchased. Thanks Ric!

Greg! Happy birthday, sir!

I use it simply because I like the eInk. It's easy on the eyes for hours of reading, which is usually where I find myself. I can't imagine plowing through Cryptonomicon on a backlit screen. Aside from that, the iPad reader apps are all brilliant, and I think eInk as a technology will likely be somewhat marginalized by excellent devices like the iPad.

My nook is still in very heavy rotation over here. I prefer reading on it to reading on anything else.

I can do a lot with just the rabbit and coconut. Throw some ohm gel in and BAM!

"Tell me, does it have Jimmy Johnson in it?" "It does" "Fuck yes. Where can I get one?"

I normally resist the "I feel bad for the guy" tenor of these discussions, as I never have. Maybe I don't have a soul, but he always struck me as hilarious. Today, though, that all changed. I remember when, years ago, people used to ask him where he got all the money. He was running Krell Amps, K1000s, and some very pricy Nordost cables. The whole kit was probably worth over $15k, if it was purchased new. Now he is literally crafting tweaks from fruit. His only source is an E-MU, and he long ago sold all headphones save the Etys. A person could purchase basically all the kit he's using in those videos for around $1000, give or take some for ERS paper. So where'd the other $14k go, or more realistically, what happened to whatever revenue stream he had access to that allowed him to purchase this stuff in the first place. My guess, which is unsubstantiated, is that he's selling audio gear to eat, and whoever used to take care of him has stopped doing so, for whatever reason. That's something to be sad about.

I am about to finish an MA I don't really like, but I did it for the student loans.

Billy, the iPhone 4 does N, but the 3G and 3GS do not, so far as I know. If your iPad can get it, then theoretically you should be capable of higher speeds than you're getting (since you're not limited to under 20 mbps by your ISP). That being said, a very good G router is often faster than an average N router, so, as always, the specific gear matters. One would assume, with the surfeit of apple gear already about, that you'd be springing for an airport extreme, which is a plenty fine N router. Frankly, I'm surprised you don't have one yet.

best of luck with the new direction, Doug. you're a bright fellow, and I've no doubt you'll land well on your feet, though a little crawling may well be involved before you get there.

Man, I was gonna have all sorts of fun coming in and namedropping, too. On the other hand, "Brothers" does sound great. Not that he didn't deserve his comeuppance, but he at least gave me an album before he got burnt in.

There's a very good chance, yes. If I still live in CO, I'll be there. If you still drink cosmos, you still are cosmo, Steve. xtwooooooo
-
Hey Awesome! Now, when I show off to people by telling them about all the cool, cosmopolitan things my gay friends are doing, I don't have to be lying! Srsly, though, I loved you all before, and I love you now, too. As a wise, evil man once said: peeps is peeps.

That's really an ideal pseudo-HDR, knucks, as a traditional HDR would wreak all kinds of hell with moving water, and you'd never get that circular polarizer see-through foreground that makes the shot so striking. As a devotee of HDR myself (and fuck you haters), I'll note that you have no halo problems or wonky color in sight. A little darkening of the sky in the top of the center, but I'll assume that's the filter. Really a standout shot. That and #2 are my faves. -
Fancy words like Spychedelic? There are only two questions a person needs to ask themselves when considering the purchase of the best IEMs ever made. 1) Will I wear them? I.E. is my station in life such that, for a few hours a day perhaps, I can safely and happily block out all external noise? AND 2) Can I spend $1100 right now? If the answer to both is yes, then buy these. If no, well then compromise. Reading reviews of the JH13s seems terribly silly.

True as that may be, those all seem like features one could pretty easily get from, say, a Popcorn Hour C-200, which I can personally recommend as well. It will happily play FLAC and .iso, to boot. Seems like either is a good solution, but if you don't mind the extra box and extra couple hundred bucks, the C-200 leaves your TV options wide open.

awwww..... you guys are too much. It's good to be back. To think I've spent all these months just blissfully listening to JH13s with nary a thought of how the experience could be heightened. Seems positively unamerican, in retrospect, and it's high time this problem is addressed.

I passed the foreign service oral exam and, having passed, allowed myself the guilty pleasure of head-case reading and posting again after a bit of a hiatus. Hello friends!

Amen to Dan's suggestion. You make the list, I'll see that it gets to the sandbox.

Friends, I need some inspiration. My wonderful camera has just sat in its case for weeks on end now, as I'm having a hard time hauling myself away from work and life to enjoy something beautiful. What do you guys do when you're in a creative rut, aside from psychotropic chemicals?
