  1. Been playing these two into the ground the last few days:
  2. They're exclusively FPGAs, as I remember, and have been for some time. No off the shelf DAC chips. Sounds like an incredibly stupid inefficient idea to me, but it does mean that they can claim to have no equal, and it's hard to refute without having to understand something. Also, I dislike the seeds being sown to start differentiating "DoP" from "Native DSD", with the preference being on the latter.
  3. Great to have you both around, guys. Here's hoping you're both properly celebrated.
  4. This album is tremendous. I've been on it for two days, and while I don't always love the arrangement and instrumentation, her vocals are a force. Reminds me of Shara Worden from My Brightest Diamond, in a way, but like Shara Worden's Rihanna cover album.
  5. Presumably, it wouldn't crack in a cvap oven. It likely doesn't crack in the machine. The cracks are good, though, as Birgir points out -- Gotta let that moisture out.
  6. ^^^ Radiohead -- Kid A
  7. Clearly, the speaker cone avatar is played out.
  8. Can confirm. All batteries are Chinese, of course, but the really Chinese ones are not good. They are, however, less than 20 cents per battery in many cases.
  9. That little guy looks awesome, Birgir. Using normal standoffs and standard tubes, would you be using a 3u case?
  10. What do all of you use to test amps? I don't want to plug O2s into something I don't yet trust, but I also feel silly about buying sacrificial headphones. The cheap ones are all normal bias...
  11. CJ! I hope it's a great one.
  12. Alright! They really are beautiful.
  13. I've used Canopy for Python, which is very nice to me. Others work better than me, and will have better suggestions. Foxit makes a legit .pdf reader that I've used. Avast is pretty beloved as a virus scanner, but I've run for years without one without issue. I think good habits count for a lot, which I'm sure you have. Don't let strangers through your door, and you won't need to own a metal detector.
  14. Any computer not running on an SSD should be running on an SSD. I'd go SSD before RAM, Pars. If only because 16GB is really a whole lot, and Disk read/write is more responsible for boot times than RAM.
  15. I've yet to meet a Korean who believed in that, but I'm assured it's a very popular belief on the peninsula. Probably mostly in the South.
  16. Oh my gosh! Happy birthday!

That whole section of it might get loud was brilliant, starting from where he nailed a string under tension on top of a pickup and built a lap steel, of sorts. He touched on it here, as well, when he mentioned how comfort is the enemy of art. I'm glad he's good at surrounding himself with people who have expectations, because I keep getting great music.
  20. Are you on a green card, Grahame, or in H1B?

Ric, I just watched a good chunk of that interview. i love Jack White, and he touched on an idea that David Byrne has said more eloquently elsewhere. The notion of music as divine inspiration, or as some ephemeral muse expressing itself through the hapless musician is silly. How is it that every musician's muse happens to express itself in 3 minute, 30 second songs? Music is work, and White points out that he writes songs when he has to. He books studio time, or someone books his time, and he buckles down and writes songs. Byrne theorizes (in his excellent book "How Music Works") that music naturally evolves to fit the space it occupies, and better music does that better. The Talking Heads, he points out, evolved to play CBGB. That's the only place they played for a year or so.
  22. I'll join you.
  23. I've undoubtedly made more Americans than anyone else here, and I've not been so happy about a single one of them as I am about you, Haj. Welcome.
  24. Got my SR-007A last Friday, set them up last Friday driven through Al's SRD-7 and a Firstwatt F5 I have here. Far from ideal, but Al was very generous to send me his SRD-7, and I was not about to let them sit around unlistened to. ~20 hours over 5 days is hardly enough to make any sort of claim, except that these are a lot more comfortable than they seem for the first five minutes at meets. They're a real joy to leave on for a few hours. When I first subbed them out for my HD800s, I felt like they would not last in my setup very long. Now they've certainly earned the chance to get some proper amplification. The sound is the kind of thing that wears well over time.
  25. I never would have thought to check ebay.
