  1. The HD800 is my only headphone (well, the only one worth making amplifier decisions on), and I was more than happy with the L-2 until Doug informed me that there was better stuff coming.
  2. Happy Birthday, Steve!
  3. You are on point with those gifs, Bryan.
  4. Long time lurker? You registered today. Also, you spammed a link that no doubt channels through your facebook for a referral code. Fuck off.
  5. Been awhile since I last saw Mahler's big flagship review. Seems pretty on-point as far as my listening preferences go. I also like that he owns all these simultaneously, and that he has proper amps (more or less). OP, just read through that chart, and choose the best one you can afford. Problem solved.
  6. It looks like you really decided to move quickly on purchasing the above:
  7. Happy day, Ian!! Here's hoping that you're appropriately celebrated.
  8. This is progressing wonderfully. I'm getting a strong "Young Doctor's Notebook" vibe from the cocaine addiction, though.
  9. I think it's a neat tool that could benefit from a larger selection of amplifiers, as Kevin suggested. I agree with the groupthink here that amplifiers are more than output power and impedance, but those are awfully important measures of performance. More information can only serve us well. Thanks for sharing this with us, youngj123
  10. Just tried that. They do not sound best that way.
  11. Question for you all. My seatpost was stolen yesterday, along with my seat, and I'm not sure of the best way to go about measuring for a new one. Do I just measure the diameter of the hole without the clamp engaged? If it's any help, this is on a Trek Lime Light coaster bike. Thanks
  12. I use the JH13 with a (very special) tube amp. They pair very well with Doug's ECP L2.
  13. A few of us have heard the older Stax... I remember being impressed by the SR-5NB (A.k.a. SR-5 Gold) when i last heard them. Same drivers as the SR-X mk.3. Slightly newer than the SR-3, but excellent nonethtless.
  14. Great article. Celebrating some authenticity right now with a Leopold Maryland-style Rye. I'll likely make a Sazerac with it and some Leopold absinthe later.
  15. Another year in the bag, Frank. May it be one of many.
  16. There are people on Head-Fi who make money (or receive products worth money) for generating a positive impression of Audio GD products. I have never owned one, and I can't tell you if any of them sound good or not, but I don't like the business model. Good products sell themselves, and honest marketing tells you more about what you are buying. The way Audio GD is sold makes me nervous. Many products are sold this way in China, and they might be a very good value, but I doubt it. We don't recommend a lot of gear on this forum. Lots of us have similar gear, or we know what everyone else owns. If you're looking for recommendations, or a way to work within a specific budget, Head-Fi is a better place to ask. If you want to know what we like here, there are reviews and comments all over the forum. I think you're English is very good, and I'm glad you read the welcome message. I hope you're enjoying your LS50s.
  17. Aw, hell, Larry, that's awful news. Really sorry for your loss, and it's a shame that you weren't able to be there. Glad you made the funeral. I echo the sentiments of others here -- grief is ugly and not sensible. Try to grieve well, and don't fault others for grieving poorly.
  18. I'm sure the HD5xx sound awesome, and are comfortable, but I think they're too far off the "professional-looking" mark. I can't see myself wearing those while I tell someone face-to-face that, due to U.S. law, they're not able to go visit their child in the hospital, nor attend their eventual funeral. A certain solemnity is necessary that I feel they lack. I do like the auto-mute feature, though. That would be useful.

  20. I realized after the fact that this statement may come across as insensitive. The descriptor "little" was added to allay any confusion that may have arisen from Jerry Harvey employing more than one Laotian man who does ear impressions on site. The man to which I refer would likely be the smallest, in terms of physical proportions, of the Laotian men working there. In my experience, he was neither "small-minded" nor in any meaningful way inconsequential. Please excuse the misstep.
  21. If they still have the little Laotian guy who does impressions, you should definitely get them done there. He's excellent, and nailed my fit twice in a row.
  22. It would have to be analog only (like the stompbox) because I am not allowed to use peripherals on our machines, for security purposes. I'm pretty limited to the dual 1/8" (3.5mm) plug format for compatibility with an embedded system. I could theoretically bring a self-contained system to run it through, but I would need to A) sneak it into a U.S. Embassy, and transport it every day from my desk to my interview window (which is not the same two days in a row, and is shared with other officers.) So the USB sets are out, but I dig that HD595 clone.
  23. Only time I ever ate turtle was in a turtle soup at Commander's Palace in New Orleans. I would really like to eat more of them, though. Only the big ones are endangered, right? I don't have to feel bad about this? I remember Shredder often commenting that he intended to make turtle soup out of the ninja turtles, which seems a great idea. He might not have had anything else against them, and just couldn't get over how great the soup would be.
  24. Correct, they will be used primarily for speech, though your point is well taken, Tyll.
