The app is truly useless. The bluetooth doesn't reach from my kitchen to the couch, to I can't monitor it remotely, and it's simple to set up the temperature using the dial on the actual unit. Once the temp. is reached I just set myself an alarm, often on the oven.

I've used mine probably 10 times since I got it two weeks ago. Great success with chicken, eggs, steak, salmon, and flan. I love this thing.

Every radio station in Istanbul now plays only this song.

Expensive and/or raved-about headphones that actually suck!

P.S. We do not care about Brent. -

We care about food, bicycling, personal health, cars, competitive racing games, alcohol, DIY, and each other here. Not in that order. Headphones might not even be the most popular thing, any more. -
I have the same, George. I adore it. I recently tried to use the hot air gun to clean snow off the deck of my project room, to no avail. First thing it has been unable to do.

Working sous vide kinks out. Eggs this morning, much runnier than I'm used to. I liked 'em, but not enough time or temp on the whites for my taste (45 min at 145 F). Tried to make up some chicken thighs for lunch, but I suspect they were not good quality to begin with. Cooked to doneness, but they did not look or taste like I wanted. I fed them to stray cats (after verifying that their internal temp. was safe to eat.) Chicken breasts for dinner, with some cracked pepper, saffron, and lemon. Making them up into a chicken salad. Results forthcoming.

I got to meet Joe Biden again, right before he took his wife to the Grand Bazaar. He always puts on a good show, and is just about the most affable guy you could hope to meet. Scheduling his visit, on the other hand, is a cascading bureaucratic nightmare of timing and frustration.

I've heard tales of his enormity!

Phenomenal. It's like I'm right there with you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My last time in Tokyo my wife and I spent all our money playing arcade Mario Kart and going to novelty photo booths. Japan is wonderful.

I'm jacket and tie formal 6 days a week, though you should expect this from your public servants. I am also always in need of new suits.

Amazon delivered a 6 pound jug of crisco last week, so I used a bunch to demonstrate my wisdom in buying it. Fried chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, pork gravy (using ham dripping ice cubes saved from Christmas) and Thai chili Brussels sprouts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I dropped Tidal months ago, but if I pay with a Turkish bank account it costs 1/3 as much, and it's the only platform to integrate with Roon, which is really an enjoyable service so far.

The Knuckledragger 3rd Memorial Slow Forum Post

Yeah, that sounds awful for all of you. 1 out of 5 times I spoke to cab drivers in Beijing, they just stopped the car and said "here." That was where I got out. Also, Birgir, that is pretty rich coming from a guy who's national language is basically unchanged since it was written in runes. -
Hoppy buhthday, Grayum!

Got the HEK in today, spent a few hours with them. Not bad at all. Somewhat unique presentation to my stalwart HD800s -- I feel I get a long more string noise, pedal squeak, valve thunk, etc. Same amount of music, just more of all the little ancillary bits, which surprises me. My main setup has always operated on the "high end thunderdome" principle, whereby you can only keep your favorite, and all comparison only serves the purpose of figuring out what to get rid of. I didn't buy these, and I have to eventually return them to Fang, so it's a treat to be able to listen comfortably in my own rig knowing that I don't have to decide whether I like them better than anything else. They make my ears real hot, though.

I'm trying to work out a posting near you, Birgir. I'd love to come by and see the new place. Until then, best of luck with the move, and I hope the sale goes swimmingly.

The first great headphones I ever owned were a pair of Stax Lambda NB. I got them accidentally, almost, by winning an eBay auction for a normal bias energizer for like $6, then realizing it could only drive normal bias 'stats. That drove me here, as I recall, to ask about a good amp for them. HC's recommendation? KGBH. Fuck you guys, I love you all.

Well that's that, then. Just bought an Anova. Enough to get started with ziploc freezer bags, you think?
-
Group poll. Which sous vide machine should I get? Is the Anova still well liked?
-
Shame. Nevertheless, that's what I've got. I'm not about to buy a different amp to play loaner headphones, even though this is Head Case. I'll see about imbalance or channels cutting out. Hopefully it won't be an issue. I heard a beta pair at his shop in Tianjin before, so I'll be interested to see how these measure up.

Hey Doug and Tom! Any idea if/when a fresh stock of Cinemag transformers might be available? I'm weighing the pros and cons of purchasing a finished amp vs. making my own, and the availability of the recommended trafos seems material.

Fang just sent me a set of HE-1000s to try out. The most powerful amp I have here is the ECP L-2, which according to Nate's measurements puts out about 125mw into the HE-1000s 35 ohm nominal resistance. At 90db sensitive, I should be seeing ~110 peaks, if my math has not deteriorated to the point of unusability. That's not quite the output power I'd prefer into these, but it should be sufficient. To the amp's credit, it is a truly sublime and hearty 125mw. If that's not enough, I'll wire it up to the F5s speaker taps, just to frustrate Marc.
