I will audition the O2 Mk1 in two days' time, at last. Trouble is, the guy who borrowed it from his friend only has a 313 which I guess is quite a bad match. Should I carry my T1S to him, does it worth the hassle? Because I have to admit that while it is truly great with the borrowed SR-Lambda (which will have to be returned today :'(), it is quite underwhelming with my other two phones (maybe my ESP950 is faulty, I don't know but the NB Lambda simply sounds much better on the T1S, and this is not just my opinion...) Also, is there a unofficial 'guide' to achieve the optimal fit without wasting too much time? Thanks

If the dark foam is missing that's ok but the thin dustcover is needed to protect the drivers.

According to the few impressions that I found, the 404 Limited probably doesn't worth that much extra money over the 404 (or even the 303) but you may be able to get it cheaper at Yahoo Japan. By the way, there is two there at the moment, if somebody is interested. The old Lambda Signature could also be very interesting and also the Sennheiser HE60 is said to be on the bright side as well. Although it is still very expensive and if something goes wrong with it, it may cost a fortune to repair which is makes it even less appealing than it already is (even so, this is still something I would really like to hear).

I wonder what is the S/N since I read that Stax made some changes to the membrane in the later ones (also, there are ones with aluminium fixation discs instead of plastic ones but that doesn't affect the sound).

Even they admit the difference is very little.

I have a pair of Toshiba tubes sitting there since a while, I am just waiting for a guy to do the biasing, hopefully later this week. But I have doubts it will compensate the lack of power. I am listening to a SR-Lambda now (borrowed), the midrange is just magical, but the sibilance kills me sometimes, my other two phones are better in this respect. I guess I am very sensitive to that.

The specs seems to be the same apart from the cable, so I don't know but the drivers are definitely not the same, so the difference should be bigger than between the SR-303 and SR-404. I found a thread at the other forum where they had written that the difference is little between them, so the opinions may vary. audiod's comparison thread about the two
