First of all, those 2 need to get a room and finally get it over with. The pre-sexual tension that they convey is killing us. ...and they change equipment more than most people change their underwear I'm surprised they're not from Italy (Nik, cough, cough). At least they can both say they've tasted a lot of nectar before they die. After all, isn't the thrill of the chase half the fun (except if you're Wyle E. Coyote, who never finishes the chase)

Transporter v. Squeezebox 3 w/ DA10?
immtbiker replied to blessingx's topic in Home Source Components
I have my transporter running digital Mogami XLR out into my Dac 6e and it is the shit. In hindsight, I should have stuck with the SB3 using a Cardas RCA>XLR converter and saved $1200. -
Is this with speakers or headphones?

There's a first time for everything and I'll always cherish this moment

Transporter v. Squeezebox 3 w/ DA10?
immtbiker replied to blessingx's topic in Home Source Components
My transporter dac output is definitely a bunch of notches above, when compared to my ex-SB3>Ack dAck! 1.3 using a real good Stereovox coax digtal cable, but pales in comparison to the output of a DV-50 using CD and lossless, switching with matched volume. -
Being a transporter owner, I find this is pretty cool. I use mine everyday I'm surprized that they kept the SlimDevices name. I though they were just going to go with Logictech.

I'm not sure about the electrical theory behind burn-in with small components and their large caps, but I have heard monsterous differences in sound with Ray's, Cesar's, Mikhail's, and Tyll's amps...good or bad. Cary and Bryston both insist in their documentation on a minmum of 100 hours of burn-in before evaluating their amps and Cardas and VPI ask for a minimum of 40 hours on their cables. Bryston burns in their amps 100 hours before sending out them out (looking for catastrophic failure) and then offers a 20 year transferable warranty. So do Mikhail and Ray (sans the 20 year warranty). I've been heavily into home audio since the mid '70's and can say without hesitation, that almost all good components I've bought in 30 years, sounded better as they "matured". Feel free to jump down my throat now, I have a lozenge ready.

OK, then like James Bond, I will go with the "shaken, not stirred" approach from now on

Too late. Have 2 lovely, well adjusted (better than me) kids. And when I said "rape your daughters", as an example of why freedom of speech doesn't always work, I meant other's kids, not my own. My kids are safe and so is my fatherhood as long as they don't find the porn that is sublayered in hidden directories on my hard drive. And if I was being a prick by stirring shit up around here, don't I fit right in?

You mean things like Gatorade/Powerade? Doesn't the sugar overdose get added to the overwhelming amount of sugar included in the alcohol?

I called his legal department and I see how his wording can be clearly mis-construed. He means his lifetime. The Diablo poses more of a concern to be, especially since the chassis is glued, and it says right on the website that none of the parts of the Diablo are user serviceable or able to be modified. With Larry's track record, you would be taking a huge leap of faith buying one of those. Say what you want about ray's designs and his aggressive attitude (which some can rename as passion), but he does stand behind his work and no one can take that away from him. Both Ray and Justin had over 100 pre-orders which they are fulfilling in the promised timeframe, and kudos to both of them. I wish both Justin and Ray, the greatest success in their business ventures, because making money in something that you enjoy is one of life's few pleasures. That and a love of a good woman. For those that are looking for a component that has a dac and portable able, it's nice to know that there are choices to be made and we are free to make those choices. Happy New Year and may everyone enjoy all their new toys in 2008.

2 large glasses of water before going to sleep and 1 large glass in the morning and except for the most extreme cases, it defeats hangovers. Hangovers are usually caused by (besides insane amounts of alcohol and abusive substances) dehydration from the alcohol content in one's body. Give it back the water it needs and hangovers can be a thing of the past.

What the fuck does that mean? It appears that everytime I say something you feel a raging need to show your disdain for me (and I have no idea why). My point was a valid one and I believe others here agree with me. Some might not, but some do. Please explain to me why my statement should be the reason why I shouldn't be a mod. All you do is sit back on your high horse and say how it was back in the day and why you quit and that song is getting old. In 1993 I went to a Johnny Winter concert at the Beacon and everyone kept yelling out "Johnny Fuckin' Winter!" To this day, it's an ongoing joke between me and my fellow attendees that referrals to his name can't be said any other way. Quite fitting

So if I started a thread about the joy I would get raping your or anyone's daughters, that would be OK too? Freedom of speech and all. Not trying to be facetious here, just making a point.

I understand that Head-Case strives to "not dictate what people say in an open forum", and that it never wants to take actions that are like the kind of actions that Head-Fi does, but in all seriousness, what was the point of that thread? If it's a matter of free speech, then so be it, but what purpose does it serve, other than to prove that people can post almost anything that they want without provocation. If this is the case, then why does Head-Case have so many moderators. There's not a lot to moderate. I understand the need for many active senior members who are very knowledgeable about audio, that share useful information amongst each other to share in the passion and help each other make wise buying decisions. But why a thread about vomitting on God's child in multiple languages? Because you can? I'm pretty sure that some people here are here in large part because they are unhappy with the way the "other" forum is being run and enjoy the freedom of being able to post whatever they want, but why would anyone want to start a thread on pissing on God, and why would other's join in? Where does it stop? Bestiality, Aryan Race, planning terrorist plots to kill Americans on their own soil? It's either everything goes, including what temperature a person's brains cooks best at, or else some lines have to be etched. Where you guys draw the lines are up to you, but if your stomach can take "vommiting on God" threads, then what kind of person are you and I'm fearful for your children. I don't think this is the concensus of most members here, and when someone starts a thread like that, I guess it can be ignored, but then, why have it at all?

I asked for a Solis Maestro for the holidays and got a Cuisinart blade burr instead of a conical one. You get what you pay for. The Cuisinart is a piece of shit. Is there any bean roaster you can safely use indoors?

I always use 91% isopropyl alcohol on the plastic and the metal parts with a thin Q-Tip.
-
I do that every day. I have 500 MB of .flac on an external, and it takes 11 seconds to convert a CD over to ALAC for my iMod.
-
I bought one from Silicon Salvage for $55 dollars, and while it's built like a tank, it skips easily and the quality does not come close to 1 bit PCDP's currently on the market. I bought a battery from Sony for $35 and after 20-30 charging cycles, it now only lasts an hour. It uses 4X oversampling, and I thought it sounded great until I compared it to my $90 Panasonic CT-SL570. I definitely misses a lot of the information. I use it, plugged in on Repeat All to burn in various new components.
-
Why not use dBPoweramp and CDRipper and convert your CD's to ALAC. It's just as easy, and a lot friendlier than installing a new operating system on an iPod. They are both lossless.

I got to spend some time with Justin's stat amp at the Florida meet. It was Guss2's setup and it included a Sony SCD-1 (which can be outdone by a lot of CDP's) some Nordost Valkyrie IC's and his HE-90, and it was one of the best sounding setups I've ever heard. Babylon Sisters never sounded so good! I told Justin I want one, but the $$$ is a little out of my league unless I sell something, right now.
-
Happy Haj Day!
-
Interesting. So the took a proven design and put it into a pretty box with lots of shiny stuff, and made it worthy of the HE-90's. What I don't understand is, if the design did not use $$$ from Senn's R&D department and the headphones are pretty good in the detail department, but there isn't really anything too expensive in the build materials, then why would it be a losing venture at $15K in '95 for the set? \
-
They admittedly lost a bundle making those amps and headphones, like Sony did with their Qualia line. They can sell a thousands of 580-650's and make money. A $5 earbud that they sell for $79.00 is a better business practice. When everyone was calling Justin's electrostat amp an Orpheus clone (insides not looks-wise) did Sennheiser contact him about legal ramifications?
