What are you Grilling now?
I'm not grilling anything at the moment, but I did clean my Genesis inside and out. When the grease and grime below grilling surface started catching on fire, I figured it was time. The Genesis makes it very easy to take out all the parts and scrape/wash them down that I really should not wait so long.

RIP someone or another

RIP someone or another
RIP Grant. Fuck the fuck out of cancer. Seeing Bob Mould in a few weeks at Hardly Strictly. Gotta play some Hüsker Dü in the meantime. Here are Bob's words from FB yesterday : It was the Fall of 1978. I was attending Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. One block from my dormitory was a tiny store called Cheapo Records. There was a PA system set up near the front door blaring punk rock. I went inside and ended up hanging out with the only person in the shop. His name was Grant Hart. The next nine years of my life was spent side-by-side with Grant. We made amazing music together. We (almost) always agreed on how to present our collective work to the world. When we fought about the details, it was because we both cared. The band was our life. It was an amazing decade. We stopped working together in January 1988. We went on to solo careers, fronting our own bands, finding different ways to tell our individual stories. We stayed in contact over the next 29 years — sometimes peaceful, sometimes difficult, sometimes through go-betweens. For better or worse, that’s how it was, and occasionally that’s what it is when two people care deeply about everything they built together. The tragic news of Grant’s passing was not unexpected to me. My deepest condolences and thoughts to Grant’s family, friends, and fans around the world. Grant Hart was a gifted visual artist, a wonderful story teller, and a frighteningly talented musician. Everyone touched by his spirit will always remember. Godspeed, Grant. I miss you. Be with the angels.

Which Cooking Are You?
The tomato pie was good but almost too sweet. My tomatoes are super sweet so I should not have included even the small amount of sugar she has in the recipe. I'm going to try a leftover slice today to see how it has aged.

Which Cooking Are You?
Yup. From her cookbook. Jealous that you and Debbie had her food multiple times. I have eaten the tomato pie from this recipe made by my sister in law but mine will be better!

Which Cooking Are You?
Not really like pizza but not totally unlike it either. It has a pie crust with tomatoes, caramelized onions, thyme and basil. The cheese "crown" is fontina, parmesan, and mayonnaise. Southern cooking, baby.

Which Cooking Are You?
Took most of my remaining ripe tomatoes, but I made a tomato pie from the Farmer and the Chef's recipe and I am desperate to eat it even though I have to wait awhile.

Hurricanes and Stuff
Sorry for the delay, but here is Gene's morning update: All ok here, Al. Irma took last minute veer to the east (inland) and spared us the worst. No damage, flooding or injuries. Just shrubs, branches, small trees, and litter to clean up. Very lucky. Powet expected to be out for a while, but we have water service. It was an adventure for sure. Also, Steve is back "home" at the trailer park but he is staying in another person's trailer because they are out of town and Steve's trailer would be rather breezy (big hole in it). He has no power or internet so he is not likely to be here much for the moment. He wanted me to let everyone know he is good and I'm excited that he is seriously considering moving back to the Bay Area by November. Woot!

And now what did you do TODAY?
I helped make some juicy IPA with a teacher friend of Claire's. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out after dry hopping in a few days.

I checked in with Gene again and he is fine for now but will be spending the night in a windowless hallway six floors up. He is comfortable with their safety but worries about the aftermath, obviously. I love this picture of Carl and Bonnie hunkering down on FB:
