x2. Listen to mine every day at work. Mackies can be good, although more expensive than the M Audios. What are those white speakers that Tyll is ga-ga over? He shows his new desktop amp setup with them all the time. They sound damn good.
-
Both of them do. Ben here is incredibly lazy. No Pico for you!

I have lots of Slappa cases broken down by genre and alphabetically. Their new D2i version gives the greatest flexibility because the actual sleeves have inter-locking ends so that you can add more in and move them around without taking CDs and booklets out of the sleeves to make room on fixed pages. Overall I love this system and it allows much easier changes/additions to your collection.

Do you think I would be using that piece of shit Dell if it wasn't for work? -

Thanks. I enjoy the AD2000 and go through phases listening to them pretty regularly and then forget all about them. They are often in my office and I listen to speakers more there. They are somewhat warm but pretty detailed and I like how comfortable and open they are. Can still hear the phone, etc., as needed. I just posted these pics on HF and realized that the screen shot is Thrice's first post from this thread. Can I get in trouble for posting a pic of HC even without mentioning it? Hmm, I get I will find out. -

The Pico sounds quite good with HD650s. That was how Justin was showing the prototype at meets. [speaking of which, Justin, are you coming to Mayberry or not?] It also sounds great with ATH-AD2000, Grado HF-1 and PS-1, and Sony CD3000. I have just been trying the Pico with my Shure E500s because Ed said the gain might be too much. It sounds very good -- have not yet compared head to head with my SR-71 -- and the gain doesn't leave a lot of room as Ed said. I can go up to noon but it is loud and intense. I like it at about 11 o'clock for loud listening but 9-10 o'clock is better for normal listening. Tomorrow I have to fly to NYC for a one-day trip and back again Wednesday night so I will be trying the Pico out with my iMod and laptop back and forth to see how it compares. Some pics will follow... -
What did you get and from whom?

Actually I am hijacking internet signal on my son's laptop from somewhere at least a block away because nobody has power on my street. I had to use the repeat key to make my point since I lose the signal all the time. Anyway, I keed, I keed. The Duet Showdown will just be one of many nice features of the Mayberry weekend. There will be some quiet times and there will be a K1000 room during the meet itself. The Hertsens and Cosecant will have lots of company. We can even use my Pico as a dac/pre if we want to get nutty.

In honor of you birthday, Justin shipped me my Pico! Thanks for the assist.
-
He looked a lot younger than that back in April, but who knows? Happy birthday Brian!
-
Jacob- I have just toasted you with a nice quaff of Highland Park 15 out of my Glencairn glass purchased on your recommendation! Now, I will attempt to drink 26 more tots and one to grow on, although I may not see 45 this way... Have a great birthday and keep up the good work here at the 'Case. BTW, did you check out your birthday thread on HF? Grawk funny. Cheers, Al

Poor planning. -
I am digging the sound of my "shallow end of the pool" Stax rig, with some Bill Evans and Jim Hall right now. Or is it a middle of the pool setup? Not sure. Maybe I will still be enamored and will want to move up to one of Justin's new offerings when they are available. When will that likely be Justin? Oh, and Nate, I understood you to be referring to the aesthetics from the beginning and wish I could have jumped in sooner but hadn't seen the follow-ups until just now. You've had my back, and I would have liked to return the favor. And of course I agree that Nate is brilliant as well.

That is some serious commitment to a thread! Good work, and probably worth the effort. Anyway, don't know if a couple weeks is literal, but we are having a meet at my place in Marin on Feb. 2 if you are around then. Neil will have to speak for himself about stopping by his place but let me know if you will be around at the beginning of February. -
Happy birthday Monk!

I had been considering a relatively inexpensive Stax rig to try out the electrostatic option in more depth than just hearing other people's rigs. I think Gene snatching up a new top of the line rig put me over the edge, however. I am looking forward to hearing the new O2 setup in Mayberry but also want to hear these Lambdas with the better amp to hear the differences.

Pics on last page, but I will do some shots in the light tomorrow.

OK, here goes, although I have been experiencing technical difficulties uploading and wish that it wasn't dark.

Picked up my first Stax rig this week off Audiogon from a local guy. It is an SRM-1 Mk.2 ("C" serial no. which Spritzer said was good), an ED-1 equalizer, and Lambda Pros. Pretty sweet from the first listening I've done. Too bad there are no balanced inputs, but it is a good first own from the world of Stax and electrostats. I'll post some pics with my nice new camera soon.

What combo were you using Nate? If it is the 5687s as output with a 6SN7 input, then I would switch to a good pair of 6SN7s as output. The traditional MPX3 setup is 3 x 6SN7 and a favorite combo is a Ken-Rad VT-231 or Tung Sol roundplate driving Sylvanias. Not sure what combos the seller included though. The EH tubes are not in the same league at all.
