  1. I love the pic of Matt the Younger, and the last pic of Gene sums up the evening for him. Gene rallied like a true champion last night, which might have rivaled Mike's return from the dead at about 2pm during the meet.
  2. Good idea Dusty. Go for it. Thanks for the info on the KGST, which I have do not know anything about other than its intended existence. Not meaning to start anything with spritzer or otherwise -- and not sure if your post means that he has fought this fight over on HF -- but it really seems like a silly comment given that it is not possible he has heard Neil's amp.
  3. There is no thread theme to derail here, so I don't have any problem focusing on this for a minute. I think your comment that the ES-2 is not a "real amp" goes too far as I am quite certain you have never heard it. I don't know if you have ever even heard the ES-1 from the sound of it, but it seems not. You second-hand comments and speculation don't seem justified. MikeyMad is a member with an ES-1 who absolutely loves the way his O2 sounds from it. I think his setup sounds good too, but the cans have never done it for me. I have also heard the O2 and O2mkII from the ES-2 and again, it really doesn't do it for me. It has been awhile and I cannot give any specifics on the sound, but I know I heard O2s on a Blue Hawaii at least once if not twice. That didn't do it for me either. I have never been wowed by their presentation in any way. I have heard a KGSS and Aristeas but I don't have a specific memory of the O2s on those amps. I would love to hear an O1 but I am not aware of any that are around here. Curious about what Justin is doing with the BH SE and also with his new electrostatic amp in the planning stages. Not sure if they could make me like the Omegas any more, however.
  4. I heard the same thing and at least a couple people from the meet have ordered the 1.2B. I also meant to add that the HE60 also sounded very nice out of Neil's incredible rig. The HE90 still rule the 'stat world for me, so here was my full ranking for the stats at the meet: HE90 4070 HE60 O2mkII He1.2 Lambda Pro Signature Lambda Pro | | | | | | V He1.3
  5. Sorry that I cannot give detailed impressions because most of my listening was on the fly and under stress but here are some comments. I heard the 1.2 out of Gene's 007tii amp and thought that they sounded quite good but not Orpheus-like to my ears. Going from the O2mkII to the 1.2s was a shift from laid-back and pretty flat to much more lively, not quite in your face sound and WAY louder at the same volume. Didn't have the chance to volume-match but somebody may have done it. I have never liked the O2 very much, and nothing at this meet changed that. As for the 1.3, it not only looked ridiculous -- like some spare bamboo from a Tiki Bar -- but sounded off as well. I don't know the history of these cans or what changed besides the materials and look of them from 1.2 to 1.3, but there is no way I would buy the 1.3 ever. The 1.2 might have a place in the world, although I didn't spend enough time with them to really figure out what that would be. I was also able to listen to the 4070s for the first time and spent more time with them than any of these other stats. I love them. They have more life and body than the O2 and they have both details and sense of presence that were impressive. Even though they are heavy, they are very comfortable and I thought they sounded really excellent out of the 007tii. I don't recall listening out of the SRM-1mkII, which is a shame because they seem pretty efficient and that might be a nice easy option.
  6. I just dropped my computer on the ground as the stupor bowl took a wild turn. Happy birthday anyway!
  7. Frank said the parts cost was $2K but that might be a little low. It is not dual mono, as I understand it. One PS powers the driver tubes, which are 6BX7GTs, and the other PS powers the output tubes, the Soviet GM70s. The nice thing is that Frank drew out the schematic for thrice and he is going to part it out and spec some amps (possibly) for the impressed listeners. The K1000 sounded really nice, but I actually thought the HP-1s were gorgeous. We all agreed that Frank needs to slap on some speaker taps and maybe a 4-pin XLR instead of the 1/4. Nice stuff.
  8. Happy Fucking Birthday!
  9. neilvg loaned me spritzer's former Lambda Sigs and they are the clear winners over the Lambda Pro. I haven't had enough time to compare closely but from the first listen I preferred the Sigs. Oh well, I guess I should have bought them before Neil when I had the chance...
  10. Dean Wormer!? . . . DEAD!
  11. I thought there was no authority to question?!
  12. Nice impressions grawk. I am very curious about the comparison of the Duet vs. Pico dac only so plug them into that M3 already!
  13. Happy 50th again!
  14. Bill Frissell at Yoshi's SF -- twice. The first show on Thursday was much better than the second on Saturday, but I liked both. He played lots of covers from from Dylan to Bacharach. Good stuff.
  15. Not as much as I was hoping for, that is for sure. Great American Music Hall in SF has a show I think would be fun on Friday night. May Gauthier and Mark Olson, founder of the Jayhawks. She has a great voice and they are co-headlining so it might be interesting. Check out the link http://www.musichallsf.com/artist_pages/mary_gauthier_mark_olson_020108.htm Social Distortion with The Aggrolites Friday, February 1 9:00p at The Fillmore, San Francisco, CA Cassandra Wilson at Yoshi's Jazz club in SF, and Chris Botti at Yoshi's Oakland. The Bluegrass & Old Time Festival (not to be confused with the FREE and much larger Hardly Strictly Bluegrass) is in town that weekend. David Grisman would probably be the best bet on Friday night. 16. The SF Jazz Collective on March 15 is another must-see show at Zellerbach. Still not sure why they are playing there instead of in SF as an official part of the Spring Season at SF Jazz, but there it is. Any interest?
  17. Not a hater in general, just hating you for trying to make me think that my $12K in dac/transport is not as good as this $500 shiny shit-box Mac Dac. **Note to Mike: Sorry that this doesn't contain any positive vibes you hippie.**
  18. Fuck you.
  19. I guess I should be excited about this Duet thing, but I have to wait a little longer to hear it. I have to admit that I didn't even know it had a headphone jack. I could easily sell my VDA-1/PSU and be more than half way to the cost of the of the Duet. Dan, the USPS Priority Mail Pico package could arrive today but I would expect tomorrow at the latest.
  20. Shit, if Mike is getting the Duet out to you that fast I better get the Pico out too. Justin didn't like the pine-tree drinks (aka gin and tonics) so that is not a proper incentive. Perhaps free vodka, room and board, and a trip he can write off will be adequate. Not to mention the outrageously fun collection of people who will be there, plus Mike.
  21. It's the least I can do for somebody who had their car smashed up and stuff stolen. I hate that shit and remember the last time it happened to me -- years ago -- walking up to the car with a smashed out window and the dash torn up, and having a surreal moment like "I know there's something wrong here, but what is it exactly... ???" Anyway, Pico will be on its way soon for your comparo pleasure.
  22. The Pico really is great and I have been using it as a DAC only in my office this week. I am going from a mini-to-RCA into my Headroom Desktop amp/dac/pre with Home modules. I have done the A-B comparing the USB input directly into the Headroom and using the RCA analog input from the Pico a few times and the Pico wins for sure. The HR dac is good and sounds very nice for an office setup with powered M-Audio BX5-a speakers, but putting the Pico dac in place of the HR dac is an instant improvement. I'm still very impressed by the little bastard, and his creation as well! Just kidding Justin, you're not a bastard at all...unless you don't show for Mayberry! And Dan, I will send you a Pico for comparison purposes because I don't have any travel upcoming and there will be others at the meet soon who have them, including Justin unless he is, in fact, a bastard. Send me info and I can send you the goods in the original box.
  23. Nice impressions I_D! We'll have to do some Apogee Duet to Pico comparisons at the Mayberry meet. That Duet is getting some seriously overblown lovin' from some quarters. Hard to imagine it is SO good.
  24. Nobody in this thread seems injured at all. People have just been pointing out that you are acting like a dick.
  25. Straight up jackass with his jack-ass-hat on.
