I thought they might be too bling from the pictures but they look very beautiful and classy in person, if maybe a bit bigger than I had anticipated. My wife chose these over the standard (non-anniversary) look which is more of a nice but plain cherry and no aircraft grade aluminum accents or built in acrylic spiked stand. If she wants them then who am I to deny her? I am already thought of as a kook for the Harbeths so if put these bad boys in my office I would be instantly de-equitized and wrapped up in a Billy-jacket. I am going quite Brit with my speaker choices lately, huh? I would love to have you and others over very soon. Must have the unicorn first, however. Not at all familiar with the ATC electronics so I will give them a glance for kicks. I have high hopes in the Doshi so it will be for information purposes only! Yes, but not bright.

What gave it away, the fact that the cables are sticking straight out and over the EMM? We might have to talk, but first I am planning to trim the racks to two in that spot and try to position the speakers back a little and hopefully another foot apart. The amazing thing last night was that the coolest listening spot was sitting on the coffee table or floor between the speakers about a foot in front of them. Depending on the way this works out, I definitely may need some Nugget magic. I did lick one late last night in the heat of the moment. I stupidly worked after JP left until about 2:30, but I played music almost the entire time. This really was like a scene from a movie where two morons are freaking out because their heist has gone wrong and they don't know what to do. Luckily, JP stopped crying like a little girl long enough to get them upstairs and all was well . Many, many thanks, once again because it was he who got me going on the Doshi and that led me to the ATC speakers that come highly recommended by Doshi himself as a great match with his phono/pre. He even does a few mods to the amp packs and the "minor issues" he takes with their presentation were somewhat apparent last night but nothing that makes me want to send them across the country. Nice! It practically looks like the same driver.

Well it's not quilted maple, but I kinda like the look of American Magnolia . . . These ATC SCM 50 Anniversary speakers are stunning, moreso in sonics than looks, which is saying something. Many thanks to JP and Clarke who came in for the assist on getting speaker no. 2 up my front steps without breaking it or our backs. With some trepidation we fired them up for the first time and were universally underwhelmed. JP said later that he almost left in fear of my reaction, but these are self-powered speakers with three amplifiers on each side and they were crated for weeks. Within minutes everything started changing until they opened up and blew us all away (if I may speak for JP and Clarke for the moment). Even without the Doshi black unicorn in the system, I am confident that I made the right, yet rash, decision to buy these. I cannot wait to get the Doshi back this week all patched up and with XLR outs added to jack into these speakers properly. JP is to blame for where I am at, and I thank him for it.

a few concerns with my latest aquisition (sp extreme)
Voltron replied to crappyjones123's topic in Headphone Amplification
Use the 5998s instead of the 6080 and it won't get so hot and will probably sound better anyway. Try the 6sn7 and then you could try the 2c51 with those outputs and see if it works better. Otherwise try and get another one. Good luck with the Beta but it will get worked out and good old Nate has offered to fix it if there really is a problem. -
I wish I had pictures of Noel Lee, head of Monster Cable, riding his Segway around HeadFest (no Accujack jokes here), the second national meet. He never got off the thing and simply rode right up to the tables and such. He had that pouch with stuff in it and a lacky who did stuff for him. It was a funny sight.

? I do note, however, that I was not aware that Segway had an Accujack option.

Yeah, but just remember the massive field of view from that wraparound rear window.

I am Defensor Mundi! Thanks for Spektrograf for pointing this out to me.

Eh, why do you act like a know-it-all prick so much of the time? (The context is quite clear from his post even though you snipped most of it off of your quote so you snipe at deepak for no purpose.)

I don't know what ingwe saw in the Apex copy to make him think of the flowery descriptions of drek in the Crunchy Frog sketch, or what you guys think is ironic, but I agree with Zach that the ad is pretty simply descriptive.
-
I must warn you that in future you should delete the words 'crunchy frog', and replace them with the legend 'crunchy raw unboned real dead frog', if you want to avoid prosecution. BTW, you do realize that Enigma Audio is the fine establishment of our very own Grand Enigma, do you not?

GPH- I am confused because you mention the 007tII at the beginning of your post but then speak only about the 727. Not sure if it is typographical or if you have heard both in comparison to the KGSS DX and/or SRD-7s. How many watts does the Cambridge put out?
-
I'd put it in the sounds good but doesn't transform them from boring to engaging and/or exciting. Haven't spent lots of time on that though.
-
What is your question? There simply are not a lot of copper-only cables for the Senn that are suited to them. There is one on enigma-audio.com called The Apex that you might want to check out, but not if you are thinking $300 was too much: The Apex™ Headphone Cable Constructed with our custom produced Cyro-treated Ultra-Pure Mono-Crystal Ohno Continuous Cast copper wire (Cryo-UPMCOCC) with pure Teflon

It's an O2 thing as far as I am concerned. They need more than the 007t or 717/727 can offer to sound even decent. They can sound good on the Woo GES, but not great. They can sound pretty great on the ES-1/2, but not fantastic. And they are probably taken to their greatest level by the KGBH/SE as far as I have heard them. I wonder if a really powerful amp, say my McCormack DNA 500 with massive wattage could power a Stax trafo box and make the O2s come to life a bit. Should have tried it with Gene's Accuphase in Tampa but I just forgot.

Sadly, the Lucky Strikes were sounding good at the moment.

The 1.2Bs are nice looking and SO MUCH better than the bamboo abortions they replaced, but I have to say the Jades are better built, better looking and more plush. I hope Naaman gets to try them out sometime.

At some point, Steve, are you going to stop saying you don't write reviews anymore at the top of your reviews?
