  1. I built my sister a redwood clad mailbox stand Then Steve and I tried to dig post holes in dry, compacted dirt before hiring a guy named Sergio to do that task. We set the posts with a high tech expanding foam product made by Sika that worked great. It is in a bag with two bladders that you pop to combine and then pour in the hole. It works very fast and was set in three minutes. No bracing and waiting for concrete to set.. The best part is that Home Depot had marked down these bags from $10 to $2.38 and when I checked out they were rung up as $0.01 each. Two cents for footings is pretty cheap.
  2. That looks delicious and makes me want to go stand in line at Liguria Bakery
  3. Hand pie then?
  4. Baking thread is a good idea and that is a tasty looking start. Do you call that a pasty?
  5. And...it's done. We'll, the concrete part. Steve and I need to build a wall, put in doors and a window, get a little electrical done, and then start making sawdust again. This time with a serious dust collection system and air filter in place.
  6. That's sad. RIP Dr. Smith.
  7. Is that a banana? 🤔
  8. Have a great one and hope you're getting pampered on your big day. Cheers!
  9. Happy birthday Steve! Hope you are feeling well and have a great day. Cheers!
  10. Moar steel and a vapor barrier.
  11. Chorizo & egg brunch tacos
  12. Correct! The contractor thought the extra steel was worth the small difference even where he could have used 3 or 4. The lally column on the left that is hidden behind the wood brace was wrapped with rebar to really tie it in. Both columns were undermined part way so that they key into the footings under the foundation wall. The temp posts and beams will come out when they remove the forms from the shop side of the foundation wall. The new slab will be tied in as Steve described and will top out five inches below the top of the foundation wall. A big improvement over the prior garage slab that ranged from 2.3-3" with no rebar and the lally column pads were just on dirt.
  13. Further along in converting the garage to a proper shop, they poured the concrete for the foundation wall today. I had to leave a mark while it was still wet...
  14. Have a great one, Jim! Cheers!
