I'm very sad to report that our very own Carl Stephen "ironbut" Koto passed away on July 2, presumably from the lung cancer he informed us about in late May. Several of us have been concerned about his absence and both Ric and I (and maybe others) tried calling him to no avail, eventually receiving notice that the line was no longer in service. I tried searching for information but did not find anything until this morning I finally found a death notice for Carl Koto in Eugene, Oregon at age 66, and that must be him. 😢 Steve was a great and gentle guy and a fantastic Head-caser. His reel to reel rig will be remembered as one of the all-time best headphone experiences for many, many people. I'm happy that he had a few years of retirement in Eugene when he could make music and take it easy, but it truly sucks that he didn't have longer. Just to prove how humble and unassuming Steve was, I couldn't find a decent picture of him so I hope others can find more to post here. RIP Steve, you will be missed.

Cutting / cheese boards for the holidays, you say? These are for our French friends with whom we will be spending Christmas, and all are cherry, walnut and maple or curly maple. I just put a coat of Tried & True oil finish on them and when done with that they will get a linseed oil wax top coat.

Building more feet, Doug? What for? Do the magnets hold down the Jessem roller track? That's a pretty cool idea, but I've already drilled my fence.

I want a poster of this. Claire and I invariably got into some kind of fight driving around Boston because it is so disorienting and so easy to get lost or miss turns and whatnot. -
It is a much more satisfying sawing experience, and I went years with the little DeWalt jobsite saw. The outfeed table will be nice too. We are making the back wall cabinets the right height to serve as an outfeed table, I am hoping that works out well. I built some tray type drawers to store Festool systainers under the Kapex as soon as we build the cabinet.

Listened on and off for hours today. Only moment of confusion was some guy growling for seemingly ever. Otherwise, it was fun listening!

Ah, you're the featured pic. Nice.

Did your table get you into the guild?

Because Fitz hasn't been around lately. 😁 In other shop news, my niece's husband is not an astronaut but he does build a nice bench with Veritas vices and other fixtures. He's also given me the hand tools and such on the temp shelves below on indefinite loan. With three Lie Nielsen planes and sharpening gear available, I guess I'll try shaping wood and honing tools by hand (Tice bait).

Have a great one Todd! Cheers!

I've never heard of Randy Crawford but Wikipedia says she has been more popular in Europe than the US even though she is American.

Building shop cabinets is kind of meta woodworking. We made a nearly 16' level base/toe kick and cut all of the parts for the cabinets, miter saw stand, and work surface at the back of the shop today. Laser leveled the base/toe kick that straddles the short remaining strip of the old slab and the new slab, so that all cabinets built on top will automatically be level (assuming they are squared up properly). The Sawstop with Jessem roller wheels (like the ones Jeff just bought) and two people was brilliant at breaking down and sizing the plywood. Cuts through it like buttah.

Steve had some Turtle Wax so I used that once. I also tried linseed oil wax but it wasn't great. I'm getting some carnuba for the next time.

This for sure. Sounds like you find one, which is good. There were two of us but building the PCS wasn't terrible and took a couple or few hours.

Sophie's girlfriend is Jewish and we just feasted on home made latkes with trimmings and pastrami and brisket and corned beef and rye and sour pickles and then chocolate babka and cookies and custard donuts. Friends of Sophie's from high school joined and helped make latkes. Stuffed and happy.

Welcome back Wink -
We just had nachos and salad and will cap off the evening with peppermint brownies and multiple ice creams to prepare for tomorrow. I might have a little extra ice cream to get ready for the macaroni bomb and other treats tomorrow. 😳

I'm watching the news that three asshats have been found guilty of murdering an unarmed jogger in Georgia. Thank you to the jurors for being human.
