I was thinking about a manhattan and now I feel compelled to try to catch up, even though Giants baseball will have to sub for The Citizen

Looks good David even though I don't think I would choose to make liver. I used a former Reks knife to make dinner tonight too! We made grilled sausages (bratwurst and garlic) and corn fritters with peppers and scallions. The bell pepper and scallions were so easily and finely chopped! I also bought a nice wood magnetic knife holder but realized I don't have a wall long enough to mount it conveniently. D'oh!

Way to get in touch with your feminine side, Duggeh!

It's ok to just come out and say you can't believe how old Dan is. You don't have to beat around the bush.

Three lazy dogs in that shot! At least the two on the floor don't drink as much beer.

Love the Diplomatico Rum. Since you're the Clock Bar regular, hopefully you can introduce me this week. But if anyone suggests Old Panther Piss, I'm walkin'! It's been a long weekend in which my daughter returned from NYC after three weeks away, my nephew got married, I attended a mass in honor of my mother who so wanted to be at that wedding, and I saw the Giants win finally with a different nephew. After passing out upon returning home this afternoon I woke up in time to make cocktails for dinner. First was a round of Remember the Maine cocktails with Claire, according to the Regan recipe: And after dinner I made myself a cocktail from the PostProhibition.com website but I don't have Death's Door gin to make the name make sense: Death's Door Cocktail 2 oz gin .75 oz Lillet blanc .50 Averna .25 oz creme de cassis orange peel garnish Not bad, but nothing special. That looks like a specimen in a jar...

Good pick-ups Todd. I can't say I mourn the loss of Borders because they caused the loss of so many independent booksellers but now that they are one of the few book stores it is still a loss. Congrats (one each) on the shoes and awesome black fridge. And Amen brother! I have taken the same vermouth-related pledge and intend to damn well keep it! I have tossed out too many partial bottles and I am done with that. Have fun with the Bijou, Brian. I had Naaman's for awhile and it is a nice amp.

Stella Artois for lack of better options. On the plus side, I am sitting on a patio at my hotel for the weekend and my brother who lives in LA is coming over for a beer or two. My oldest nephew is getting married at my brother's house in Woodside, which should be an interesting test run for my oldest niece/goddaughter who is getting married in Mayberry next summer.

I guess a whole one per jerry can. >

Sub in a Minkoff and a Lion Heart for those jerry cans, sharpen your shovel, and we're ready for Capetown on Acid!

Ah. The old spunk in the crock pot trick, eh? Bummer.

How about chocolate covered curry bacon?

All true, but Dan (I think) and I (I'm sure) were noting that Dusty doesn't seem to leave the crock pot going when he leaves home, which is one of the key features.

Hey Shelly, I used to drink vodka pretty often for awhile there and I usually bought Ketel One, Chopin or some obscure potato vodka. Right now, I would either buy Chopin (potato) or get a Charbay flavored vodka like the Meyer lemon, pomegranate, red grapefruit or blood orange. They are flavored with real fruit, as they explain here: http://www.charbay.com/VODKAS.aspx I actually think that she would love many of your gin cocktails and may even learn that she doesn't have to limit herself...just sayin'. As for vodka cocktails, the vodka tonic is obvious, but tasty, but here are some real cocktails to consider: Triomphe Cocktail 1 1/2 oz Vodka 3/4 oz Lemon Juice 1/2 oz Yellow Chartreuse 1/2 oz 1-1 Simple Syrup Shake well with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon peel. Yokohama Cocktail 1 Dash Absinthe 1/6 Grenadine 1/6 Vodka. (1/2 oz Awamori) 1/3 Orange Juice 1/3 Dry Gin Shake well and strain into cocktail glass. [she'll never know she's drinking gin unless you tell her! You could also just double the vodka] Madras Cocktail 1 1/2 oz vodka 3 oz cranberry juice 1 oz orange juice 1 lime wedge Pour all ingredients (except lime wedge) into a highball glass over ice. Add the lime wedge and serve. Cape Codder 2 ounces vodka 2 or 3 ounces cranberry juice cocktail 1/2 ounce lime juice club soda Glass Type: Collins glass Instructions Pour vodka (or white rum) into a Collins glass, add cranberry juice cocktail, the juice of half a lime (some leave this out,) and a couple of ice cubes. Top off with club soda or seltzer (some leave this out, too, doubling the cranberry; we don't). Garnish, if you wish, with a slice of lime and/or a sprig of mint. Madras Cocktail Mix 2 ounces vodka and 2 ounces OJ in a Collins glass, slip in a couple of ice cubes, and float 2 ounces of cranberry juice; serve with a stirrer and, if you wish, a wedge of lime (people like something to play with). Moscow Mule1/2 ounce lime juice 2 ounces vodka 4 to 6 ounces ginger beer Mike Romanoff [*]2 ounces vodka [*]1 teaspoon Cointreau [*]1 teaspoon apricot liqueur [*]1 ounce lime juice [*]2 dashes bitters

Not to pile on, but that was what I was thinking too. Aren't they made for turning on in the morning, leaving the house, and then returning home to slow cooked foodstuffs?

Came to City Beer to get a beer for IPA Day on the way to a firm event and they were unaware of the new holiday. I had a Palo Alto Brewing Rye IPA to celebrate anyway. Now quaffing a Canadian Berliner Weiss by Hopfenstark. Nice and tart.

Nothing wrong with that!

Sorry man, getting hacked sucks.

Nice Mike! How was the drunken cherry?

^This. And I am a little sleepy, too.
