  2. I fucking hate being patient and learning things. I WANT INSTANT AND EASY GRATIFICATION/PERFECTION!!!!1!! I think Dinny and I are a lot alike.
  3. Poor MTT. Serves him right, though. Doesn't he know that everybody who goes by three names is a killer, usually an assassin or serial/mass murderer?
  4. Thanks Wayne! Peter Pan or Santa or DOTU, we won't grow up!
  5. Somebody better get jamming. Ingredients 1 pound bacon, finely chopped 1 small onion finely chopped (about 1 cup) 2 medium cloves garlic, minced (about 2 teaspoons) 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes 1/2 cup brewed coffee 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar 1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar 3 tablespoons maple syrup Procedures 1 In a large skillet or dutch oven, cook bacon over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until fat is rendered and bacon is lightly browned, 10 to 15 minutes. With a slotted spoon, transfer bacon to paper towels to drain. 2 Pour off all but 1 tablespoon of fat from skillet; add onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and red pepper flakes and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Stir in coffee, vinegar, brown sugar, and maple syrup. Bring to a boil, stirring and scraping up browned bits from skillet with a wooden spoon, about 2 minutes. Add bacon and stir to combine. 3 Reduce heat to a bare simmer and cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until liquid is syrupy, 1 to 1 1/2 hours. 4 Transfer to a food processor; pulse until coarsely chopped. Let cool, then refrigerate in an airtight container up to 4 weeks.
  6. And don't forget O'o for accessible recent Zorn. Beautiful music.
  7. I'm staying at the Park Hyatt in Seoul this week, which is in the Gangnam District. I wonder if everyone there walks around Gangnam Style?
  8. It was painful to watch him walk stooped over at the waist, but once he started to blow you forgot he seemed frail. The first song (D. Cherry) was a little rough -- as Mikey said it, he so far outclassed his band that it is understandable -- but the second song (Patanjali) was epic and he blew like mad for at least 10 straight minutes. When he did St. Thomas from Saxophone Colossus I felt like that was my money's worth in one song. It was also cool to see Bob Cranshaw on bass. The short review here gives a little more flavor of the show: http://www.examiner.com/article/sonny-rollins-honors-the-past-at-davies-symphony-hall
  9. Great times!
  10. Welcome to the Left Coast Colin.
  11. I really don't know what the plan is for this weekend, or if Marc is going to be living there anymore, etc. Does somebody have a list of some hotel or motel options close to wherever it would be good to be close to? How many people are actually planning to see the races and how many of those already have tickets?
  12. Have a great one, Wayne, and let me know how this fifty thing works so I can prepare myself! Cheers!
  13. Homemade chicken pot pie. Nom nom nom
  14. Because he's an annoying schmuck. I have seen him somewhere before too. Maybe an airport.
  15. Maybe they need brighter headlamps.
  16. Brightblack Morning Light -- s/t
  17. At best!
  18. That guy is fucking hilarious. Especially because he doesn't mean to be funny. Best delivery of a great line: "All cocky!" around 2:20 or so.
  19. There are a lot of bad-ass HC wives! Congrat Lauren!
  20. Douche indeed. Tape one to the inside of your rear window so they can't get at it.
  21. Have a great one, Jim. I wish we could have celebrated together in Munich this weekend! Cheers!
  22. Oktoberfest 2012 started out rainy and overcrowded but I managed to have several liters of beer, some pretzels and roast chicken, and fun. After a slow start, I hung out with some 20-somethings from Ohio and Michigan and France. I never made it into one of the tents, but the spent most of my time in the bier gartens at Paulaner and Hacker. Good times but lousy pics.
  23. Hamburger in Hamburg, complete with bacon! Plus fries and a couple of Erdingers.
  24. Monkeys at play sounds like a great day.
