At this point it looks like I'll be in late Friday. FFF sounds good.

When I represented the dental labs one of them specialized in designer crowns. Might have a gold star, half moon, what ever. Most of my business out of Chicago and Detroit. A transmitter in a crown doesn't seem that far fetched.
-
Apparently impressions will be taken digitally shortly, if not already. Send the impression to the lab in the morning and have the crown that afternoon. Don't think it would be any harder to generate a 3D image for casting crowns over milling them. I imagine that currently they are both using negative impressions.

Back from my dentist. Apparently CNC milled crowns have been around 20 years or so and with good result. He has had 3 crack in his practice and several with chipping issues, but generally a solid product. He happens to prefer porcelain to gold crowns but thins the CNC ones are fine. In his practice he chose not to buy the milling machine. His perspective is that he should concentrate on dentistry and the dental lab should concentrate on manufacturing crowns and bridges. Each an expert in their own field. He did say there is quite a learning curve to getting the process down right and that it took his brother (another dentist) a couple of years to get to the point that the crowns would be considered acceptable. You might want to be sure the person milling the crown has ample experience if you choose to have it done in the office.

Grahame, I'll make a point of checking with my dentist Tuesday when I visit. As a former "detail man" for a dental laboratory, the first question that immediately struck me was the occlusion area. This is where the word art applies in dental art. An impression does not give this information and a cookie cutter one size fits all approach. The materials used and how they fare over time would be another concern I would have. I recall offering semi precious and non precious metals as an alternative to gold. Both have proven over time that they are less durable and harder than gold which is not desirable. FYI, unless the dentist takes terrible impressions or the dental lab fucks up, the second appointment is typically fast and easy.

Guess we're all different. Beginning with my first pair of progressive lens I adapted to them right off and have never looked back. Perhaps I move my head and don't realize it, but it's more a matter of moving your eyes until you find the right plane to look out, then locking in with "binocular" vision. Sounds more difficult than it is, but when your eyes choose the right plane of focus you maintain it. Clear to see that I love mine

Mowed about half the yard before the transmission on my lawn tractor died. Hope my next door neighbor (neighborhood mechanical guru) can determine what's wrong tomorrow ... and hoping for a cheap and easy fix. At least I got the worst of the leaves mulched

I own a Dac3 and Alex had one. I think they were grossly over priced at anything approaching retail, but are a good value at their current street price. I have only owned three d/a converters so I don't have the experience to accurately judge, but I find it to be neutral and musical albeit with some digital etch to the sound.

Impressive Bryan, congrats! Packed up the perishables and winterized the travel trailer. Came home and realize that I left the TV antenna up and didn't clean out the medicine cabinet. Good thing I plan on going back up net weekend. Not sure what exactly happened last night. Heard a ruckus outside the trailer including some clanging. Looked this morning and the stabilizer bars I installed up at the front of the trailer were knocked down and the dog's water dish was dragged under the middle of the trailer. Jason only comes out on Halloween, right?

Interesting POV. I've been driving for 41 years, beginning in February 1969. In all those years ... my wild teens, my crazy 20s, my too fast 30s, etc I have had all of 2 evasive maneuvers. One of the best driving gifts my father passed on to me was the importance of vision - look 1/4 mile down the road, check your peripheral vision, anticipate driver actions and so on. Passed on to my daughters as well. The oldest has never had to make an evasive maneuver. The youngest had to learn the importance of vision the hard way. I've driven with and without snow tires, with and without 4-wheel drive, with and without all wheel drive, front wheel drive only, rear wheel drive only. I've driven white outs, blizzards, wet snow, dry snow, ice. It has always been my opinion that if you have to make an evasive maneuver you failed as a driver to have sufficient vision and control. Snow tires, front wheel drive, 4-wheel drive and all wheel drive will NOT make you a better driver, and I've seen no evidence that they help to prevent accidents. We'll have to disagree on this one Dan. Case in point. Many years ago I had the fuel pump ripped out of my vehicle when I ran over something in the roadway on a black rainy 4:00 a.m fall morning. I got a rental car, a Ford T-bird with rear wheel drive. Coming back home along the lakeshore we got one of those November snowstorms that dumped 6 inches of lake effect snow and continued snowing at 1" per hour. I passed just about every vehicle on the road, no matter front wheel, 4-wheel, all wheel, what ever. I successfully avoided several spin outs and was never in danger of being involved in an accident. I don't consider myself particularly skilled as a driver, but I am very aware of my limitations, road conditions and what is going on around me. I believe that has more to do with safe driving than equipment, gear, accessories or what ever.

Lake Michigan makes our winters milder than they should be ... if you don't factor in lake effect snow where along the lake they may be getting 4-12 inches of snow and 20 miles inland nothing. But we get our share of snow here. I have used all season radials with good success. I have never wished I had snow tires, but I grew up driving in the winter with rear wheel drive on regular tires. Probably more important to learn how to drive on snowy roads than it is to get snow tires.
