  1. Happy Birthday!
  2. Been awhile so I thought I would update. This has been an easy diet to follow and still no cravings. I have "cheated" a few times .... pizza seems to be a down fall for me ... but I have only seen my weight go up once since I began, and that was the week I invited my daughter to move out. Weighed in at 279# this a.m. so I am down 20# to date. It has been a consistent one or two pounds weight loss through out and I'm not done. My waist has gone from an unimaginable 52 to a comaratively slim 46 in that same time period. Really haven't added exercise but I do seem to be more active. Sadly, I haven't taken the time to get my blood pressure checked and that is my primary reason for doing this. I have no doubt it is down but I should confirm that. Hoping all of you are seeing success as well.
  3. Sorry for your loss and sorry you were the one to find him. All the best to you, his friends and family.
  4. Thanks for posting that Steve. Good to hear the "good old days" aren't gone. Back in the 1980s I was driving a motor home back from the Kentucky Derby. Not too far north of Louisville the transmission started going. I pulled over at the first exit and stopped at a local diner. Asked who I should call. Called the guy and he said to meet him down at his shop. Drove the two blocks and in pulled the owner of the shop in a brand new Lincoln Town Car. He checked things over, told me he didn't do transmission work but would have it towed to a friend's transmission shop on Monday. Not safe to drive. He then asked if we wanted to rent a car. Yes, we sure would. After telling us the closest rental was in Louisville he handed the keys to his Lincoln over and told us to put the keys in the mail slot when we dropped it off. This we did. As a follow up the transmission guy was great, worked cheaply compared to the shops we knew back home and did a great job. Good guy! Last year driving home from my trailer on a Sunday morning a van was broke down beside the road. A chubby mother with three young children were standing beside it. I pulled over. Offered to let her use my cell phone and then asked if she needed a ride. Moved car seats from her van to my truck and off we went to her church. No big deal for me. A few minutes of my time and a minor detour to take her to church. Their relief and safety ... priceless.
  5. I'm speechless. Just goes to show you that for the couple on the beach kharma is a bitch.
  6. Happy Birthday!
  7. Happy BD!
  8. Heal up everyone! Spent a nice day with my wife roaming the back roads of Southwestern Michigan. Visited many small towns, browsed in their shops and bought very little. Nice lunch. Stopped for ice cream and came back home. I like hanging out with my wife, even after almost 37 years of marriage.
  9. As usual, we're a group in need. Jacob, heal up. Larry, all the best. Dusty, wishing you and your Mom and your sisters the best Brent - hmmmmmmm.
  10. Cheers! Have a great birthday.
  11. Wishing you the best Larry.

Happy Birthday Al Hope you enjoy your day!
  14. The Monkey knows what he's talking about I prefer the 650 over the 580, but haven't heard the 600.
  15. Happy Birthday!
  16. Hope you're feeling better Mike.
  17. Happy Birthday!
  18. Since I don't have cravings any more I don't desire diet sodas or sugars or processed foods. I'm eating (by choice, not required by diet) raw vegetables and fruits and whole grain products. When I did the Atkins back in the 70s and South Beach (basically a revised Atkins diet) a decade ago I still had cravings and failed. Glad you guys don't. Sure lost weight on them though. Congratulations to all who are making the effort to lose.
  19. I continue to be encouraged by my blood pressure results. 1/31/13............146/92 2/18/13 ...........Started dash diet 3/1/13..............140/86 - not quite two weeks on the new diet/no exercise 3/6/13..............138/70 - added exercise. I questioned the bottom number and believe it should be 80, not 70. Either way/happy! That's pretty good motovation to continue. Great news on that front. Now if the urologist could give me better hope that would be nice. BPH side effects driving me crazy.
  20. I really have no idea what you're talking about when saying you're full. No joke. I have never felt full. Keeping excess weight off seems like it would be easier if I did. Just another obstacle for me to overcome. Actually your plan makes sense to me. Seems like common sense if you have the will to stick with it, and it sounds like you do. Wishing you success!
  21. I'm hoping you and others tell us your experiences as well.
  22. A month ago I visited with a new doctor. Went in for a sore arm but he saw fit to comment on my weight, ordered blood work and wanted to prescribe medication to control my blood pressure and reduce my cholesterol. Had my usual fight to find out and discuss my other options. WE finally agreed that I would reduce my weight and come back in July for a complete physical and discuss further at that time. At 300# I have a bit of tail I can stand to lose. Sadly, I've not had much trouble losing weight, but I've found it damn near impossible to keep it off. I went home and went into research mode. Came across a diet spawned from a study by the NIH (National Institute of Health) that postulated there must be a root cause to high blood pressure, further postulated controlling diet was the key and voila, the study results proved succssful. If interested you can read about it here http://dashdiet.org/. Took another week of reading, and then gathering the foods in the quantities required and started it. The first thing I discovered is how remarkabley easy it is to follow. Then I noticed I had NO cravings. NONE, ZERO. ZILCH. Cravings have been the root cause of my past failures. I went in at the two week mark and my blood pressure dropped by 6 points ... due to diet alone. I can only imagine what will happen now that I've begun exercising again. Jury is still out but I am encouraged. Checked my weight this a.m. and I'm down 8 lbs in two weeks. I normally lose more at two weeks if trying to lose weight, but I'm not really striving for that right now. I'm working to get the blood pressure down. I'm not excited about a new diet. I'm excited that I may have found a plan I can live with day in and day out. My reward tonight will be a toast to losing tail
  23. Sorry Knucks.
  24. Thanks everyone. 60 was pretty anti climatic.
